It’s a trick to plant so areas look good from all sides as I have to fence my areas in.
I’ve realized many plants need to be moved like coneflowers and butterfly weed as they self sowed everywhere.
I had a pleasant surprise of a first ever aster flowers! 🎉. Definitely a nice surprise! All the rain, heat, humidity and mosquitoes kept me inside for many days this summer—summer cabin fever—it prevented me from pulling weeds and probably would have pulled some of those new flowers.
I trimmed the lavender and didn’t think I cut into the wood, but they don’t look as good as normal when I don’t prune so I may not do that again.
I Am Thoroughly Enjoying my new rose additions!🎉🎉. Always a pleasant surprise at every turn. One goes out and another picks up and then repeat again. The zinnias, cosmos and sunflowers seeds I saved are blooming like crazy but overseeded😂and I still have a half a tote left. I’m glad the mosquitoes let up especially with the latest news of illnesses from east coast to Midwest.
The hibiscus and autumn sedum are becoming huge bushes and may need to move a few roses as I hadn’t expected such grand growth. Ugh! The purple morning glories are winning—I’m throwing in the trowel as they are blooming their heads off. They are pretty but such a nuisance weeding them out. I’ve tried for a decade to kill them off and never let them seed, but apparently those seeds could survive for centuries. I got a new dawn rose and that is probably the least impressive for the first year. We will see. I did have my husband cut a piece of trellis out that the American wisteria strangled itself around and now it’s relaxed from a tight corkscrew—maybe it will take off now. Oh! I just noticed this morning how big the verbascum rosettes are—should be an excellent show in its 3rd year🥳. It takes about 3 years for most perennials to show nice. I was lucky this year with all the rain when I planted all those roses—they loved it.
The gardens are giving their last hurrah! Thanks for the tour!

Something funny—I have too many plants with similar heart shaped leaves—is it a bean? Catalpa? Morning glory?
And so excited the catalpa are seeding as it is one of my favorite trees!
Oh you reminded me to save the hens n chicks! Does yours overwinter in the pots? I’m Z5a, WI and don’t have a dedicated rock garden and trying to think where I could give them a home as they are getting crowded out and need sun.

Oh! I have started back to my painting! 🌻 recommitting myself to something everyday…. Even if it’s just quick 10 minute drill 😁 sometimes I forget how much I love it 🥰

Thanks again Pam. Everything is lovely. Thanks for sharing it! I was wondering does that bear do a lot of crushing with it’s big paws when it ramble through your flower beds?
