Mo Farah wins the final of the 10,000m to take the gold medal in the Olympic Stadium at the London 2012 Olympics Games.

Farah was followed by USA's Galen Rupp taking silver and Ethiopia's Tariku Bekele taking bronze.

Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

My PB in a 400m is 54 seconds.
This dude just ran a 53 second 400m after running 9600m

Am I the only one who is completely transfixed by their legs? They have the most fluid form, the most effortless rhythm, the most mesmerising running cadence. Poetry in motion.

10 years later and I am still willing him over the finish line with tears in my eyes!! One of the most memorable moments of London 2012 for me. Sir Mo 🇬🇧🥇🎊

When you consider the recent revelations about Mo's childhood, it makes this and his other achievements even more impressive. What he had to overcome inside himself, and the pain he endured.

I teared up in joy and admiration watching him win, and I'm neither British nor Somali. Great athleticism has no nationality.

I love the shot at 38:35 when Mo looks back to see whose in second and Rupp is there smiling at him! I love that the training partners came in first and second!

Farrah and Rupp really made me cry! They train together so well and became brothers then dominated the race

Goosebumps. Every time it gives me goosebumps watching this.

I ran 10k last year in 58 minutes. These boys ran it in half that time, and could still stand up to do a lap of honour. Incredible.

GO MO! I am Somali by blood and British by birth and the British have given me a life I could never have had in Somalia so I'm proud to raise the Union Jack any day. But that does not mean I have forgotten the motherland, hopefully in a few years Somalia will return to its former glory.

The crowd was so lit, it seems they were consistently cheering during the whole race! Sad to think that at Tokyo the crowd size is much limited :(

This man knows how to run.. saves energy staying behind the pack while sprinting the last few laps.. well deserved!

Galen Rupp became the first American to medal in the 10, 000 since Billy Mills' incredible gold medal win in 1964. Bravo!!

Impressive race for Mr. Rupp too. Obviously great training partners, Mo & Galen.

I ran this in the 38's way back in college, and I was good enough to win local age group categories. We had a Kenyan on our team and I got to watch him break 30 at a conference meet. The performance gap between him and me was gigantic. But the gap between him and someone like Farah or Bikele who could run 27:30 on demand may be even larger. You gain such an appreciation for the talent of elite distance runners watching this, especially those like Farah who had such a long period of dominance and is breaking WR in 2020!

I remember how I watched this on the sofa with my mum and dad and grandparents and yelled at Mo Farah on the screen and jumped up and down and cheered when he won. Good times :)
