A good honest feller doing the best he can. Full of admiration for the lenghts you went to and having the courage to post the video.

Thanks for the video, helped me to understand how it all goes together. I've figured out the correct way to disassemble using your video. The reason it won't come off is because there is red thread locker (red loctite), beating on it will most likely damage the drill (I tried this to no success, even a 1/2 impact).

What worked was taking my MAP torch (butane may work too) and blasting the chuck hole once the screw was removed. Only needed like 20-30 seconds as the inside appears to be rubber, chuck was warm to the touch. Then I put a breaker bar with a large 3/8 hex on it and tightened the chuck, put drill on floor and then gave it a bit of a force downward and it came loose.

The center screw also had blue loctite on it so probably a bit of heat to that too wouldn't go a miss, saves stripping the screw head out.

Hopefully this comment helps someone out as all the other videos just seem to show people beating on the drill which doesn't seem to work in real life, I'm guessing the chuck has come off before in those videos. My drill is a M18 CPD which looks basically the same as the one in the video.

Although your video is 18 minutes long, it only took me 10 minutes of watching to realize it’s easier to just buy a new cordless drill. I got more than 7 years of good use with my Milwaukee, so I call that a win.

I experienced the same exact problem than you have going through, I was ready to give it up until I get good leverage and I was able to unscrew the last piece, thanks for the tutorial. It gave me hope and I kept going until I did it like you 😅

Thanks, you saved my Milwaukee, I've tried almost everything but only after your video I was able to replace the chuck.

My chuck was stuck with 1 of the 3 jaws sticking out further. I beat on it with a hammer and PB Blaster. I worked it back and forth till it finally loosened up a little. I then took a phillips #3 bit in my M12 impact and backed out the screw slightly. It wouldn't come out all the way. I then chucked a large allen wrench in the drill and whacked it with a hammer. It came loose. Thanks for the video. it helped!

Stick a soldering iron in the hole to heat the bolt. This will loosen the thread lock and allow you to easily remove the bolt.

Unfortunately, you literally screwed yourself. When removing the reverse threaded retaining screw, you tightened the chuck around the allen wrench. So as you loosened the retaining screw you also over-tightened the chuck. Next time, don't crank the chuck down on the allen wrench until AFTER the retaining screw has been removed. Remember, the retaining screw is reverse threaded and the chuck is standard threaded.

Before I watched this video I had done all of the same things you did. Stripped the hex, then cut the chuck off with a grinder, then went to the t40 to get the bolt out, and it's currently sitting in my vice. Looks like I'm gonna have to keep on cutting

Good sharing. Nothing hidden. anatomy of the chuck 😂
Milwaukee make excellent tools that survive hardest environment. Just see the plastic body which was not broken during wrestling. Metal of chuck gave tough time to rugged saw during cutting operation. This video increased my faith on Milwaukee M18 tools. I am hobbies wood worker and collected DIY tools required by me. Lots of love from Pakistan to Milwaukee RND team for creating such a great tool range.❤

Love watching this dude struggle- getting metal shavings on his workspace, using crescent wrench in wrong direction, and then pulling upwards on the allen rather than using pushing i.e leveraging the laws of physics
only say this partly to be a troll but partly because i do the same $hit when im getting frustrated doing something and its not going my way, sweat beading on my brow lmao
good on you mate for posting the struggle. life just keeping you on your toes

IU just spent over an hour cutting apart the chuck on my drill and still have not gotten the mangled carcus louse from the drill shaft. Had a bit in it so I had to cut it apart to get to the screw inside. It got dark so I came in and watched your video! I will never buy another drill with one of these chucks on it. I will replace with a key chuck! I still have another drill with the same problem. both drills were relatively new with little use.

I did the exact same steps on mine yesterday. I made it to 13 minutes into the video and quit before I tossed the drill in frustration. I'll cut the square shoulders today.

Thank you. As others have said, use some focussed heat on the screw and thread, to release the locktite.

Thanks for the video, I just had to cut one off. Could not take it off for the life of me, I hit it with a heat gun, and it broke loose. Turned it with a big pipe wrench ! After cutting it like you did in the video. I have done this a few times in the past, never so tuff!
