It was traditionally made in Spain using two or three connected ovens through an oxigen starved combustion of pine resin and pine charcoal. The soot from the incomplete combustion would blacken the resin an make a really fine pitch. We call it "brea" (bray-ah) or "pez" (peth). The process took several days and it would invovle even digging up the roots of big sawed off pine stumps that fostered the healthy growth of younger trees.

Just found your video on how to make pine pitch. My son-in-law recently found an arrowhead on our farm and I promised to make him a necklace out of it. I needed to know how to make pitch in order to secure the arrow to a piece of wood. Fortunately for me I live in North Carolina where the majority of our trees are pine! Thanks for the info!
