Self-Publishing Software: Adobe ($$$) vs Affinity ($$)

From a self-publisher's perspective, I've recently got into trying out different software for design and thought I'd do a brief comparison between Adobe's cloud plans and Serif's Affinity programs from a merchandise & book covers perspective.

Adobe is definitely seen as the "gold standard" in anything design - as seen by it's use by many prestigious universities around the world.

However, with Adobe's price point, there was another company that caught my eye - Affinity products by Serif.

Thanks for the shout out, I appreciate it! I love Affinity, great products. Adobe can do a few things Affinity can't - for now. They're always updating though, and catching up to Adobe. We finally got a background eraser, that made me happy. Most people won't use the few things Adbobe offers that Affinity doesn't, and the price difference makes it a no-brainer.

Rachel's channel is great. I watched her Publisher videos to learn that software. It''s all I needed.

I have a question about Affinity: on their website, besides the 3 tools Designer, Photo, and Publisher, there a ton of (special/extra) features like brushes, packs, textures, overlays, toolboxes, ... all to be paid for.
Since I don't know Affinity yet, I wonder now: are you getting for less than 100€ an almost empty Designer, Photo, and Publisher, and you have to buy all those extra features in order to do some decent work? If so, at the end of the day, that'll be more expensive than that 100€ purchasing price and maybe even more expensive than Adobe? Am I mistaken? Could anyone already using Affinity WITHOUT all those extra paid features clarify? Thanks!

This is a useless video. It doesn't showcase the programs at all. You just browse the website page and compare numbers. You don't illustrate the value proposition of the comparative apps, or compare any of the functional differences. A tool is more than its price tag.
