Not only is Lisa McVey a real person, but she was planning to end her life the night she was taken! She is now in her 50s and works for the same department that captured her abductor, having been deputized as a police officer in 2004. She works to protect children and victims of s3x crimes, and works in schools too! Truly experienced the worst and advocates for those in similar positions so fiercely!❤

The opener he gave her with the photo of his daughter and then said he would do anything to protect her as well just like her daughter is why she felt safe she needs a father. We all do

Survivors remorse is a horrible thing that shouldn't exist but it does

It really impressed me that she remembered so much about the killer. She was really observant.

Not only did she save lives but she caught the killer of lives already lost putting their families at ease. Even if their family members are aren't alive the families can live knowing the murderer can't harm anyone else

I remember this from Forensic Files.
They didn't believe her because she was "too calm."
She remembered every meticulous detail.
He built a box and held her in it in his van.
Very brave young lady indeed.

This is a perfect example of the fact she remembered all those details. If you ever get kidnapped or taken make sure you can try to remember details like this because you will save so many lives.

Not only did she save countless lives, she also brought the monster to justice who took lives. They will receive justice.

Fight or flight is an amazing mechanism, even if you are not consciously thinking about it. She was fighting, she didn't realize at the moment and due to the trauma, but she was fighting, she could remember things that could help her to either escape or to tell the police later. And the person she became later is a true homage of her willing to fight

Lisa McVey, only survivor of serial killer, Bobby Joe Long. Florida, 1984. She’s been on shows like “I Survived…” and “I Survived a Serial Killer”. Obviously she’s been on more but that’s a given. She’s so wildly brave and I’m Happy she did everything in her power to live.

That upsets me so much! Where are the consequences for the professionals that took her for granted, criticized her and ignored her! Taking more lives in the process while adding to her torment

It’s crazy how this movie was based on a true story

You lived so that you could help save others. You're a blessing. You're a miracle. You are strong, resilient, and a blessing to us. 😢❤

That's horrible. The trauma that these people get. As Dr Peterson said, "It's not the pain that was caused, but that that person intended to cause as much harm as possible". Looking into the mind of a serial killer or anyone who has that kind of intent would cause anyone else to get worse than PTSD.

She was absolutely brilliant for *remembering* all those details.. Counting the steps, too!

That has to be the most competent rebuttal to survivors' guilt I've heard.

It sad to say that there is some situation out there for someone whose family are not believing their own blood even though they can see it through their eyes that there's something wrong. Sometimes it ended to suicide cause they felt alone, no one to rely on. The society judging them without knowing the truth and worse is their own family didn't even believe them. Just so sad🤧

I really never get choked up over TV shows but realizing that there are thousands of young girls and boys being held against their will for extremely nefarious purposes is very disturbing
