We live in a complex and interconnected world. What happens in China or Russia can impact the lives of people thousands of miles away. Former State Department official Richard Haass highlights this connection in his new book, “The World: A Brief Introduction," in which he argues that we need to abandon rivalry and embrace global cooperation. Haass speaks with Walter Isaacson about how we might get there.

As a Canadian who has grown up observing the US for many years, I couldn’t agree more. We are sooo tired of hearing “we are the greatest country in the world”.

Simply this pandemic has shown the fatal flaws in US economy education and Healthcare system, and furthermore the failed political system. US exceptionalism is a fallacy.

Jesus love you, he died on the cross for you, accept him as your lord and savior he can change everything. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life" (Jn 3:16"

But you must repent too. From that time Jesus went about preaching and saying, Let your hearts be turned from sin, for the kingdom of heaven is near. (Matthew 4:17)*

The guys that attacked on 911 were from Saudi Arabia, not Afghanistan. How can this guy expect me to believe any other thing he says after such a gross error.

Case in point, when the Olympics are on TV, sadly American TV only shows their athletes winning! It doesn’t show those who Place first if they are from another country! Very odd indeed, it’s always about USA. In contrast, any other TV station shows all the winners, 1st, 2nd, 3rd...no matter what country wins! Sure each country wants to believe & support their citizens, but there are clever ppl all over the world who have knowledge to share. But Americans don’t seem to be interested to their peril.

South east Asia has proven to be leaders especially during covid. I'm so impressed with singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong (including their protests for fighting for their democracy, so impressive even children took a stand) Thailand,

Any politician, or cabinet secretary, who uses the words American exceptionalism should be voted out or fired at the first opportunity.

One day in the arid southwest of USA I awoke to yellow skies. At first I thought it was evidence of a forest fire in a neighboring mountain range, but there were no fires that day. It turned out to be yellow dust from the Mongolian Plateau. That is when i knew we had to shift to global planning.

Having visited some of the "sacrifice zones" in the US created by globalism and seen the communities, families and individuals whose livelihoods, and lives, were sacrificed for 'more efficient uses of capital", I am not at all surprised to see nation states re-thinking their over-integration into the globalized economic system.

The loss of local resilience, sustainability, autonomy and local governance has caused too many peoples to become over-dependent on foreign powers & market forces that are not accountable to them in any meaningful way. Brexit is a perfect example as the British people saw the EU ministers looking the other way as migrant workers hitchhiked their way into England and became "their problem".

Here in the US we have been hemorrhaging good paying jobs to overseas competitors who definitely don't play by any mutually agreeable rules, and some even steal our intellectual property and sell it back to us as finished goods. To add insult to injury, our most successful companies become 'multinational corporations" that avoid US taxes by simply moving their headquarters to some tax haven country like Ireland. Yeah, thanks globalism!

Sure it all sounded good back when globalization was sold to us by politicians and book writing pundits, and we did get cheap consumer goods out of it, but we decimated our blue collar middleclass, ended the "virtuous circle" and loaded up on debt to finance what was left of The American Dream. As that debt became more & more unsustainable, Wall Street concocted the Subprime Mortgage Investment meltdown and almost took down the entire global economic system with their devious "collateralized debt obligations" scam. Now the very foundations are cracking under the stain, and the fearful have elected a corrupt business conman with serial bankruptcies to concoct a way to return to a more solvent & glorious past. Yeah, sure... good luck with that.

The truth is that the world may turn out to be better off with America's dirty laundry on full display, just so that other nation states stop deferring to a declining superpower run by corrupt, doddering old men with no morals and no wise vision for a better collective human future. It is probably time for all the little guys to get their own acts together and figure out their own plans for getting their own houses in order. Hitting up a bankrupt Uncle Sam & his subsidiaries for yet another "development loan" is just not going to be an option for much longer. It's sink or swim time for humans on Planet Earth.

I disagree with his statement that if the US is no longer a world leader than nobody will be. I think the EU will likely take a more active role in world leadership.

America First, as defined by Trump, has economic consequences that might provide some short term bragging rights but is a retiring action that will ultimately weaken the US's position and economy. This is why I lose it when people say what a great job Trump is doing on the economy - to do that, you have win the contest in Science, Education, immigration and international relations. I'd argue, he has damaged the US in all of them. Just no future in that path.
