This is a great topic. I've thought about ranking my favorite covers ever for a couple years now. It's just so big of a field.

Am more familiar with the Larry Elmore cover for Autumn Twilight. Jeff Easley as well as fantasy covers moved away from Boris and Frazetta.
In the special category, the Subterranean Press cover for Gardens is also amazing.

My favourite is "A Memory of Light". Wheel of Time is not even one of my favourite series, but I love that cover so much

Michael Whelan is my favorite. Love all his old school covers; Anne McCaffrey, Tad Williams so great! I often feel the cover artists do not get the credit they deserve.

I'm rather fond of Richard Anderson's illustrations myself. He's proven to be one of the few artists who I may check out a book based on his covers alone, because of his style.

I can't believe you didn't include Michael Whelan's cover for 'Sunrunner's Fire' on this list. Really?!?

Not that I read the book, because I'd given up on the series by then, but damn, that cover was AWESOME. I even bought a bookmark showing that image.

the Larry Emore cover for Dragonlance was better than the one you showed. but that is just my opinion.
