Electric two-wheeler sales have been growing every month and their popularity among the Indian masses has grown exponentially. This has to do with the introduction of many premium EV two-wheelers that not only offer good performance, but usable range and come loaded with features. We have done many real-world EV two-wheeler tests on ZigWheels, both individually and as a comparison. However, there has always been one key question - are EVs useful on hilly areas or mountain roads.

This got us curious and for this very reason we are here today. What we have with us are the most popular and most premium EV scooters on sale in India - Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and the Ather 450X. The EV hill climb test is simple, which electric scooter among these can go up and down the hill and clock the highest range. The results are very surprising!

DTE for iQube was accurate after the descent because it adjusts to the current conditions, it's dynamic. If the scooter was going further down with the same slope, it'd have increased further because not a lot of battery was getting used. :)

TVS iQube is awesome EV👍 I've driven iQubeS 30, 000km till now with a top speed of 89kmph & its giving good range of 105-110km in eco mode.. Suspension & performance top notch.. Regenerative breaking system is working like a pro.. Awesome technology

Eco mode in Ola is just name sake.
Actually normal is the default mode.
Regen has improved greatly in MoveOS 3

I had booked Chetak and then cancelled and buyed iQube due to fluctuating Chetak prices. Iqube gives me consistent range of around 100 to 110 KM per charge for single rider, which is more than sufficient for city rides. Also the suspension setup and pickup is best among all for daily ride. Its also less priced. I am happy with my purchase and this video backed my decision.

Please do a hill climb test of all these EV scooters with pillion at back seat

I felt in ola, eco mode is useful only on inch by inch moving traffic. Once can switch to eco mode from normal mode after reaching some speed. Pickup is nonsense but cruisability is good. After 30 kmph speed the pick up is good in eco mode .
I heard in Move OS 3.0 update speed is increased to 45 kmph and slightly better torque in eco mode. Also regen kicks from 90% battery than 75% in the current version.

@zigwheels when going downhill in ola it's recommended to apply cruise control at 30, range will increase once you go down...in mysore on top of nandi temple my range was 87Km 13 kms later after coming downill...my range was 91 km...so ya cruise control in downhill is the best way to extract awesome regen...but again now in the new update you also have variable regen settings..for better regen

This is exactly what I'm looking for in all YouTube! I live in a hilly area and was deliberating whether an electric scooter would bode well for me. Thanks so much Zigwheels!!!

We recently did Pune-Mumbai-Pune trip in OLA S1 pro with Move OS 3 and Man the performance is excellent! Faced no problem whatsoever even in the steepest Mumbai -Lonavla Ghats. Really OLA S1 is superb in these Hilly condition while delivering the excellent range.

Not everyone use regen the same way. Some use it lot more efficiently than others. Ola regen is actually very good, it doesn't even consume 1% battery in such downhills. In fact, it's common to see the battery increase. Maybe switch the riders between chetak and ola, test again. And this time entirely in normal mode.

I use an Ola S1 pro daily for 60kms and using it for past 4 mnths...so far haven't had any major problems...the eco mode is just for inter city drive...Normal mode is the best..i also have an Ather in the family and since i am 6ft n its a pain to use Ather due to the knee space..

I can guarantee that If you cruise at 20 in normal mode in ola S1 pro it'll deliver best performance on hilly region

1. the DTE of the iQube was actually the accurate one out of the rest, as it would calibrate itself as per the ongoing ride to show respective DTE, whether uphill or downhill. I'm surprised Arun scoffed at it. I expected them to have the basic common sense to understand that much.

2. The iQube S itself is so impressive. the iQube ST will blow the competition out of the water. Can't wait to see it.

Actually Ola 's normal mode is other EVs Eco mode. Ola Eco mode was introduced later.

For any EV the more you twist the throttle the higher the battery consumption. Even though the Ather shows more range on the dash in Eco it generally gives higher range in ride or sports mode when riding sedately. So suppose you are using 80% throttle to achieve 35kmph in eco and 40% throttle to achieve the same speed in Sports mode, the sports mode will return a higher range despite whatever figure is shown on the dash. Try the test in Sports mode and keeping speeds between 30 to 35kmph and you may see completely different results for both range and drivability. Cheers!!
