HAMMER - the nickname that became synonymous with the Original E Class Sized AMG in the W124 series. Not just because it was a 200K sleeper that would make Ferrari Testarossa drivers cower in the slow lane - but thanks to the bombastic V8 units under the hood that would hit like a hammer.

The news of the V8's return to the #E63 was recently debunked by AMG's CEO, so for now, it seems like the current #mercedesamg E63 S may well be the last to have the power unit linking to the original beast, and every E AMG since.

Today, we ask the question if this gen of E63 is a future classic, and if we should buy one and hold on to it! We will also celebrate this final V8 E63, as it’s been the best generation of this car ever. And I’m also going to share with you the best mods you can do to extract the potential of your E Class too!!

This generation of E63 has been one of the best, if not the best. It was the first mainstream performance sedan to introduce switchable 4WD to RWD drift mode, thanks to the decoupling of the front axle. A move quickly mimicked by rivals like the M5, and to this day not matched by Audi and others. It was the only one in segment to have dynamic engine mounts, which for the longest time made it the most dynamic of the segment.

In fact, for its entire lifetime of 8 years, the E63 Wagon sat as the king of the Nurburgring as the world’s quickest wagon. Only recently dethroned by the M3 Touring.

The engine is superior, one of the world’s best in the 4.0 twin scroll bi turbo engine making 612BHP, 850NM and 0-60 in 3.5 — also in pre-facelift E63. It also has the engine on rivals with it’s gearbox, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G with a wet multi-plate start-off clutch, instead of the slow torque converters of rivals. It’s an engine and gearbox combo that will remain relevant for years to come too, as the Euro 7 version will be based on this one, and will last a decade at least!

This is the final edition, and is technically identical to the standard E63 S. Unique points include the Magno Graphite paint work, final edition livery, and a unique wheel finish of chrome with black. The Afflaterbach badge also finds its way on the c pillar - all mimicking the C63 final edition. The interior is also unique.

Now, let’s move on to mods!! One problem with my car, is like every other one in the UK — it came delivered with the basic LED headlights. While not looking so different, their performance at night is mildly pathetic. And on your E63, it seems insane to have the basic lights, all thanks to chip shortage.

So, naturally, I upgraded them. And I’m going to show you how you can do it too - along with a tonne of basic mods I’ve done on my E63, which can be done on most Mercedes cars! You won’t want to miss this.

Let's not forget, the V8 in the pre-facelift W213 is more than just an engine, it's a piece of art that resonates with the soul of every car enthusiast. That growl is iconic! Honestly, I feel like the pre-facelift versions are going to become collector's items soon enough. Especially as we venture further into the era of smaller engines and electric powertrains. Also, to everyone debating on trading in their C63s for an E63s or vice versa, just remember that the value isn't only monetary; it's emotional. These cars are about more than just resale value; they're about the joy they bring to our lives. But if you're going to keep one long-term, my bet's on any variant with that glorious V8.

If i had the facelift w213, i would install an IWC analog clock right where it was in the center console of the pre-facelift w213. That void right in the center just annoys me.

I have a 2018 (w213/c238) e400 coupe. I don't think cars from other manufacturers have caught up to the w213 in terms of luxury and design, and MB itself has gone backwards with their cut+paste capacitive touch interiors. I plan on upgrading my E-coupe to a newer of the same to drive daily and getting my hands on either a 222 S560 with a Designo interior spec or a 213 E63 sedan to keep. This is the modern dark ages for cars.

Great car! IMO Buying a 3-5 yr old 2018-19 PFL CPO. Closely maintained at < half the MSRP is where the value is! 🎉

Excellent video! :) Amazing car. Pre-facelift e63s sounds way way better than facelift. The same for the V6 from the c43 - you can't even compare the facelift with the pre-facelift sounds. 🖤

My 2020 GTC coupe is a long term keeper for sure in my collection. Always thought of it as a GTR Touring. My first and only amg and merc. Next will be an old school amg but nothing current

I don't understand how Mercedes have managed to handle this whole situation so badly. For a manufacturer famed for their V8 engines above *everything* else, who produced some of the most emotional, brutish and muscular cars in the last decade... and they've cut out their soul. Bragging rights sells these cars, not just horsepower and technology, and when you're chatting in the carpark with your mates, the last thing you want is to look at their M5 or RS6 and think "If only I had 4 more cylinders".
