I giggled looking at the tiny sign on the thumbnail and even more so when you literally 'hit the road'😂

So yes, the lesson for hitchhiking in Malaysia (due to its complicated highways system) is to be at the path leading to your destination, increasing the percentage of potential picked up, less stress (from 'many cars just passing by' 😅) and more efficient (from 'strategic narrowed down targets')... but we know its difficult for foreigners who unfamiliar with the area plus so many confusing intersections (one of the reasons to be at the right path) and no worries, people are helpful enough to send you to the right location.

You have missed the most wet district town before Ipoh that is Taiping. Plenty to do there too.
In Ipoh, ask locals the best and Legend Nasi Ganja of all time. Attracted as many locals and Malaysians.

Hej! Which part of Sweden are you from? håll dig säker, ha ett fantastiskt äventyr! Usually in any part of Malaysia, you can always look for chinese Chap Fan stall(economy rice), They have lots of meat and vegetarian dishes (like buffet but they only charge you according to what you take.

There might be some hostels with low rates or even 'samaritan's lodging @ temples, worship centres accommodating vegan- travellers, ✓... or YM+WCA...(ehm.. co~ed

encampment together?) Well, no harm checking it out? If, due emergency...anyway try southern Indian food 99.9% veggie; minus the milk/eggy embyro! AHa😮😅😊😮❤!
