I think its incredible that you start out with that size enclosure for your baby tegus and move them into something bigger when they're adults. I've seen so many adults in a 4x2, you really cant go wrong giving them as much space as you can!

I did what you recommended . I keep the substrate dry and under his warm side hide I put reptile moss so he can go in there when ever he needs for humidity He sheds perfectly . Thank you for the idea

I agree I’ve had my tegu 11 months now when he was a baby i had this same theory about the humidity and shedding

How long would this setup keep a baby tegu?

so do you keep the light on 24 hrs a day or at night take it off?

You said working together to flip the water dish. Lol I picture a 3 on 3 tug of war over the dish. Rorrrr!! Lol My tegu dirties the heck out of his dish daily but at least it’s not smelly nor do I find any floaters. Great tip about having the basking slate flat to deter burrowing. I did and had it that way for around an hour when I had my Chacoan. Meaning the day I got em. Luckily I thought better of it and did what you said before I found out the hard tragic way.

How long do you think it’s safe to leave the ground turkey in the tegu enclosure before taking it out?

I just got a 65 watt flood light bulb recommended but it’s not getting hot or putting out heat at all, it’s just a regular light…Is there a certain type of flood light? Halogen? Other type?

So I’ve seen people say 130 degrees for basking temps. I always thought that seemed off. I run 115. When I switched my year old to his 8x4 he prolapsed basking and the temp was 130. Didn’t think that was the issue bc it’s “within range” well a day later he did the same thing. Ended up adjusting it back to 115 and it hasn’t happened in over a week. I’m now certain 130 degrees for a basking temperature is wayyy too hottt
