“I saw the camps, and I saw the way that people lived. And it got to me,” said Angie Walker, Homeless Coordinator in Rockford, IL.

Walker saw firsthand the conditions that people in her community experiencing homelessness were living in, and she knew it had to change. Rockford joined the Built for Zero initiative and changed the way they worked. They committed to housing the hardest to reach people in their community and overhauled the system to better serve people experiencing homelessness.

Rockford became the first community in the country to end both chronic and veteran homelessness.

The Built for Zero initiative is a network of communities across the country working to ending veteran and chronic homelessness. We’re grateful to our partner Quicken Loans who has joined forces with Community Solutions to help end veteran homelessness.
