7 years later this series is still being recommended to beginners in the Baduk subreddit! Timeless.

This series reminds me a lot of Kageyama's Lessons in the Fundamentals of Go.  Really boils down to keeping your stones connected, keeping their stones disconnected and surrounding without getting surrounded.  Very cool series

Dwyrin, this is great. I'm DDK and this is a great reminder that simple shapes and not getting into trouble are not to be ignored.

Watching you not kill his stones though was hilarious to say the least. To the core of the video being back to basics, this video was really helpful both for me to rebuild my foundation in Go and to help teach people later on.

Strangely enough. Thanks to this video I finally understand Hane at the head of two and 3

This is great and was very helpful to me — and it's something I'll be passing on to friends when they start to grasp the basics of the game. Probably the best and most rigorous, albeit basic, demonstration of direction of play, big moves, solid connections, and wall building that I've seen. I hope you keep the series going!

at 19:20, I found your evaluation of a cross cut very useful!

Excellent. I look forward to more. Trying to play simply and not get into big fights has already improved my game.

Love your videos. So much is happening in Go. I'm a beginner and did not improve, but thanks to your videos, or Haylees, and thanks to Leela Zero, Lizzie and Sabaki, studying is so much more fun. Learning from commenting humans is most effective for me.

The Internet Go Saint does it again! An excellent new series focusing on the basics. Thank you! (Your frustration, "sooo want to kill" is also delicious.)

This was exactly the video I needed to see! I've been watching for a few years now, and this one was so helpful for a 7k like me.

I think, since as you said in the introduction, Basics are exploiting weak groups as well you should be allowed to poke at weak groups. Maybe just limit yourself to reading 3 moves ahead or something like that, cause just ignoring them completely may get beginners a wrong idea, because you might lose the game by just being too passive. And it might be interessting for people how to use the oppponents weak groups in an simple way. Maybe just some leaning or something to build.

All in all great idea I really look forward to more videos of this series. :)

You have to cut through f11 because one of the basics is using the strength you build, and this is a way to use that wall just above. (Yes, I know this is years too late.)

That is a hyperly aggressive player. He didn't let up at all.
