The UK will be an AI “superpower”, Sir Keir Starmer said as he unveiled plans to expand use of the technology in a bid to boost growth.

The Prime Minister conceded there would be “teething problems” involved in the process but insisted changes would help revolutionise creaking public services and turn around Britain’s economy.

Mike Graham is joined by The Sun columnist Ross Clark, who is sceptical over the plans due to the UK’s high energy costs.

The Sun columnist Ross Clark says he’s “extremely sceptical” over Keir Starmer’s artificial intelligence ambitions.

Starmer is the one who’s power hungry. What’s worse is Starmer is a incompetent, power hungry traitor.

Elons new data centre uses 150 Megawatts of Power. UK are having a job keeping the Lights On. Enough said on the subject.

They're not just being criticised. Our energy strategy makes them a complete and utter fantasy.

There is only one reason the likes of Starmer could possibly be interested in this subject. Increased power and control of the population.

Maybe AI will tell Starmer that Mass Immigration without the Infrastructure in place. Will Not Work. Population has been increased by 20%. That means for every 100 Hospitals you need to Build 20 New Hospitals. Just to maintain the NHS Levels to Pre Immigration Levels. Building 1, 5 Million new houses. You cannot build that amount of new houses without New Schools, Roads, Fire Service, Police, GPs, Dentists and everything else that the Country depend on Every Day to Function. Look at for instance Energy. You increase the population by 20%. Energy usage and needs increases by 20%

To say that this govmt do not think things through or join the dots, the massive cost and lack of electricity is a minus to any industry and for some it will be crucial. Our moronic. Policies will increse costs further and make it more and more expensive. We will need 5 times as much elec when everything is electric, but there are no plans for this level.

For AI to work I am sure that we will need more than two or three Solar Panels and a Wind-mill.

I would not worry too much about AI because within this Parliament Milliband will have peed up against the wall every last cent of his energy budget without so much as a penny drop in electricity prices and leaving the Uk to a decade of power cuts due to his gross mismanagement of resources

The UK cannot have it both ways. High energy prices and ambitions for a robust tech and manufacturing sector are fundamentally incompatible. If the UK truly aims to position itself as an AI powerhouse, it must first address its energy issues. Competitive energy costs are critical to attracting investment, fostering innovation, and sustaining the infrastructure required for advanced industries.

As for the host’s claim of being unable to find someone who can define AI—it speaks volumes, either about the current state of the UK’s understanding of technology or the host’s own inability to conduct basic research. AI is a well-established field within computer science, and clear definitions are readily available. To feign confusion on this matter is either disingenuous or he is alarmingly uninformed.

Laziness is laziness with or without AI. The idea you need additional intelligent to analyse the data we already have is crazy. It's billy basic.

AI so far is not reliable and not robust enough to deploy for any critical application. Also the CO2 generated by AI doing a job is often greater than a human doing the job, so high energy costs, high CO2 not what the government has been claiming we need to do.

I’m no expert but AI doesn’t seem to be the future l like to understand but surely it will put even more people out of work

Just use more windmills and then you can call them The Windmills of my mind?

Politicians will be able to replace their SPADS with AI, perhaps not not such a bad idea.

LOL so hilarious that starmers arch enemy is literally the leader on AI tech....

AI is just more Pie in the Sky. We need lower energy costs in order to boos the economy. People spending so much of their income just heating their homes. Businesses spending so much of their revenue powering their offices and factories. No money left to invest or spend. It's a death spiral for the ecoonomy.
