Watch an overview of Lesson 6.7 featuring a chemical reaction between vinegar and baking soda which is endothermic and a reaction between baking soda solution and calcium chloride which is exothermic. An animation shows that whether a reaction is endothermic or exothermic is determined by the energy required to break the bonds of the reactants compared to the energy released when new bonds are formed to make the products. Connections to the NGSS are highlighted.
