It's 2023 and all change for the Brompton Electric 4 speed

Here we show the changes

Gone are the 2 speed (urban) and 6 speed (explore) - replaced by a new urban 4 speed

Using the same advanced rear triangle as the P Line and T line - but made of steel instead of titanium and with the 4 speed sprocket set

How to set up the 4 speed gears:

0:45 | Goodbye 6 speed and 2 speed
1:42 | Battery weight
1:53 | Bike Weigh In
2:30 | Feature / spec changes

Thank you for the video. Please slowdown on the results of the weigh portion as well as showing the newer items. I had to pause and rewind ⏪ a few times. Happy Holidays

Thanks ever so much for including pounds in the information breakdowns. Google is tired of answering my conversion questions

I really like your videos, but I especially love your bloopers.

I wish they would do a 6 speed with the new cassette. Actually, why not go with an 8, 9, or 10 speed? Maybe you don't need more than a 4 speed with the e-bike, but I would really love at least an 8 or 9 speed with the non E-bike version. Lots of steep hills where I ride.

I have just this 4 speed version, I live in Driffield in the East Riding (can't get much more rural). It's on a CTW scheme and I use it to hike all my work kit (laptop etc) right to my desk in the office in Beverley. Car then bike or bike train bike. It's such a fun bike, I am planning some holiday adventures this summer :)

Wow, I am so glad I got the 6 speed. I got it on sale at REI in USA. Real good price. Brompton must have sold off a bunch of their inventory to REI when they went to the 4 speed. I really lucked out since I live in a hilly area of California and use all six gears.

I feel that the aperture of the 6 speed is already to small, sometimes I long for a shorter gear, going to the four speed will be even worse. Also, the double gear shift 1-2-3 and +/- is quite fun.

Thanks very much for all the videos you have prepared. I know it takes a lot of thought and time to create them.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the folks at Brilliant Bikes.

Thank you,
Cliff Gilbert

Sometimes the decisions taken by Brompton are somewhat mysterious. Why abandon the C-Line electric 6 gear version? Not everyone is living in a complete flat city. Give the people a choice. What s the problem with a 4 gear version and a 6 gear version at the same time? Thanks for clarifying the news in your video.

Nice Video, thanks. Makes me wonder when a non electrified version of this is coming

I’m very disappointed they are removing the 6 speed option. The 4 speed doesn’t have enough gear range. The 6 is the best option. The lack of a wider gearing option is one thing that keeps me from embracing the P line.

Please Brompton, just give us a 3 speed hub Brompton, with or without electric motor, black parts, Ti parts, fancy racks, sparkly colours, hollow rivets, smaller and smaller luggage options … just a nice simple 3 speed hub for all of us non cyclists who just want to ride our bikes every day for commuting, leisure, allotment duties, shopping, touring …

Considering what a huge success the 6-speed is, I do not understand dropping it... even if only in electric.

I can't remember the last time I used 1st and 2nd on my 6 speed electric... Happily do without them!

If the battery actually died and I was going up a hill I might want them!

and replace the chainring with one with 39 teeth ? And a battery 400 WH ?

Could you please clarify - are Brompton dropping all 2-speed bikes, or just the electric 2-speed? As a 2-speed fan, and having ordered a 2-speed urban this morning, I'm feeling a bit confused?!

Thanks for the video, its very infomative. I tried this new 4 speed electric today and was amazed - seemed so much smoother ride than my more than over a year old brompton electric? I am just wondering if it's been so much improved or it would feel more or less the same after a year of every day riding... Only thing I dont like - the chain seems to be so low to the ground to compare to the older model, can it be adjusted or it is like this and that's it.

In circumstances where you might want to temporarily lock your e-bike (light shopping, museums, heritage sites etc) does the battery pack become cumbersome if you have to carry it around. Is there any security/locking feature.
New to Brompton so loving your reviews.
