In Depth - Golan Heights

The Golan Heights, a tiny, rocky plateau that was part of Syria till 1967, is back in international headlines.

On March 25th, 2019, US President Donald Trump signed a proclamation recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the disputed region, reversing decades of American policy.

Trump's move has drawn intense criticism from across the world. Member countries of the UN Security Council have refused to recognize Israel's sovereignty over Golan Heights, which has been the centre of conflict between Israel and Syria for decades. The Arab countries have even warned of a new wave of tensions in the Middle East.

But why is the international community, including US allies, opposed to the decision of recognizing Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights; And why did Donald Trump reverse his country's decades-old policy on the disputed plateau? We try and understand today IN DEPTH.

We also analyse why Golan Heights is so important and contentious.

Whine whine whine whine...if you pick a fight, then be prepared to lose it. Syria kept kicking Israel in the head and then got thumped in return. Trump is exactly what America and the world need.

The West Asian expert - Mr Awwad - seems highly biased in favour of Syria. If possible get more reasonable people to voice their opinions, or atleast have a pro-Israel speaker too, so that we may get both sides of the story. Thank you.

You shouldn't have gone to war, if you don't want to loose lands -- .

God said to Abraham Israel and Jocob He will bleased those who blessed Israel and curse those who curse Israel. The Lord of heaven and earth will destroy all the enemy of His people. this video is one sided view. It doesn't covers how it all started. The 6 days war who started that war. Another fake one-sided view.

Why does this video not explain that the Golan was captured by Israel after it was attacked by Syria in the six-day war? Perhaps Syria shouldn't launch unprovoked, co-ordinated attacks on a country it can't win against. Hindsight.

To ensure stability, peace and freedom for Israel, Israel should annex both the Gaza and west bank territories.

What are the facts ??? Israel captured Golan Heights & won in a 6-day war initiated by the neighbouring 3 mighty Arab nations, & therefore Israel has every right to keep it for its own safety & security, period !!! In any war, the victors just keep the spoils of the war, period !!! So, just blame the 3 mighty Arab neighbouring nations of Israel for initiating the said war, ok ???

Israel won't give it up because it's a buffer zone. Without it the every thing north of Umm Al-Fahm is in range of artillery and the West Bank is only 36km from them.
