Nikon D200 in 2024 - The legend still delivers - Review with many pictures

Here is one of my best DSLRs – Nikon D200. It was a real game changer when it was released back in 2005. Everything you need to know technically about the D200 has probably already been reviewed in many other youtube channels. I just want to review the relevance of this camera in 2024.

Ok, let’s check out this legend.

I’ll start with one of the key features of this camera, which of course is its sensor. A 10.2 megapixel CCD APS-C sized sensor with a crop factor of 1.5. CMOS sensors are more liable to noise and generally offer lower quality and sensitivity, and very different color reproduction, however, they are cheaper, faster, and more energy-efficient than CCD sensors, which is the reason why the manufacturers switched from CCD to CMOS sensors.

The capabilities of the CCD sensor used in the Nikon D200 are sufficient for web usage even in 2024. You can also print A4 size images without any worries.

The D200 uses the Multi cam 1000 Auto-Focus system, which has been used for more than a decade even with more recent cameras, such as the D3500. The autofocus of the D200 is fast and snappy, however, this is very subjective as the AF speed also depends largely on the lens being used.

The D200 has a native ISO range of 100-2500, and up to 3200 with boost.

The Dynamic Range of the pictures taken with the Nikon D200 is also very good when shooting in raw at base ISO.

The build quality of this camera is superb, even by today’s standards with its durable magnesium alloy body and weather sealing. I have multiple D200 cameras that I use all the time, and I still haven’t managed to break one.

In my opinion, this very capable camera is still relevant in 2024. And using it is so much fun. Anyway, thanks for watching. See you next time.

Personally, I had this camera when it came out and felt it was lacking in the AF department. The D300 was a major improvement. But I'm glad you still find it useful even in 2024.
