As a Swiss person that’s so gross and I am so proud of our train staition bc there not that clean but cleaner than the ones in nyc😃👍

In many countries people pay crazy amount of taxes and the metro system is awful and extremely expensive when the taxes should be funding this kind of public service.
NYC subway system is awful.
The best one in North America is the one in Montreal Quebec. Yet I found happiness in Asia for public transportation.

It’s gross but next time you are there… they used to (I moved out of the city a while ago) do this program called Music Under New York (MUNY) where you could get a map of the best subway performers. There’s also some cool art installations/secrets like if you ride the 4/5 trains around the loop at city hall you can see the old abandoned City Hall station if you shine a light thru the window. There’s also a sort of animation as you enter the tunnel (Montague tunnel?) from Brooklyn to Manhattan.

While the new York Subway definitely has issues I'd say there are others that are worse

It’s the only subway system in the world that runs 24/7. Yeah it’s old and needs serious renovation, but it’s only ever shut down twice in its entire history, and it’s a flat fee, no zone pricing bs to get almost anywhere you want in the city

Gross, yes. Underfunded, hmm not so much. There have been multiple fare hikes yet they manage to still have stations with no trash cans. On the other hand, they have new train carts, which provide less passenger seats. The system is funded, it’s the distribution of funds that aren’t helping make the system better.

How is New York City’s metro system? The worst? One. It’s the longest system in the world. Two. There are police officers, and practically every station. Three. Trains are constantly arriving around every 5-7 seven minutes during rush hour

Caracas, Venezuela metro has half the trains and 85 percent of the station escalators busted and out of service. When they run out of tickets because of no paper to print em on, they unlock the turnstiles and let riders in for free.
And no one calls New York's subway a metro.
