congress = support kerala story film, "hijab is just a choice, and right of religious minority"
bjp = against kerala story film, "wearing hijab in public school should be banned"
the matter is a subject of debate amongst the legal community as regards the status of hijab and rights of women belonging to minority community.
laws bearing upon the issue include constitution of india and interpretation of islamic laws and practices related to hijab. whether women wearing hijab and veil can become part of public life and status of film kerala story are particularly relevant. the film kerala story has been banned by mamata banerjee in west bengal citing offence to the rights and feelings of the minority community. The film depicts women wearing hijab on a public screen that is completely anti thesis of concept of hijab and may cause a serious offence to the minority community. there may even be a plot to deliberately offend and expose the women wearing hijab as religious obligation that is particularly meant to hide them from the public eye. this may be clothed under the pretext of a fight against terrorism that the hijab is an evil practice of a terrorist minority group and therefore the women have to be liberated from wearing hijab.
whereas the issue is captured by the controversy surrounding the picture the Kerala Story and the status of hijab and burkha in public life... That the variety of practices regarding veiling and covering of head by women is shrouded in darkness for the entire society... How much liberty can the Constitution afford to those that seek to uncover and liberate those things that are deliberately kept away from the public eye? Whether that is even in the power of the Constitution to grant them such liberties is the question...
