Also buying better new = better second hand options later on! :)

Until I can afford to buy more ethical new pieces, my goal is to buy second hand any time I need to replace things in my closet.

I'm with you! It is so so important to support sustainable brands. That's the way to go if we want to change the fashion industry!... It's so awesome to see that more and more fair fashion brands keep popping up. 10, 20 years ago, fair fashion had a rather hippie-esque reputation. So glad it became "cool" :)

I like that you mention being a conscious consumer as much as being a buyer of sustainable and ethical brands. Ethical brands rarely come in plus sizes. I do try to shop second hand but there is such a demand for plus size second hand. Being a conscious consumer, not buying fast fashion, being deliberate with your spending, buying quality are much more achievable goals for me.

I do exactly the same: second hand and new. It works perfectly for me.

I like both as long as they are in good condition.

I love that we have people like you! Yes underwear is quite challenging. One day I decided not buy anymore polyester etc and later went and bought underwear that are made of that. Being student living on a budget it's not easy to buy ethically made underwear in a town that don't even have these stores

These are great points, thank you! It seems like there are more and more great ethical & sustainable brands popping up all the time, which is good news! I just purchased a few pieces from a really great local ethical & sustainable company. It was expensive, but I actually feel good about spending my money to support them, and the pieces are great quality classics that should last for years😊

You are an inspiring person. Since I watch your channel I think so much about my shopping behavior, what I never did before and question it a lot! I've never bought a ecofriendly item till now, but I have decided as of now I will change this!

last week i went to a local thrift store and ended up with $40 worth of winter clothes that if i get them from stores, i know would be wayy more expensive. i told my friends that the salt and pepper sweater i had was less than $5 and the down packable jacket i had on was $10.99 with 50% off so that ended up being even less than that, they flipped! they never thought it was second hand cause they look so brand new

The main reason I buy second hand is that basically everything you need already exists (also applies to most other goods like electronics, cars, bikes etc.), and that second hand bought online always fits. I seriously wait for the first ethical brand to stand up that does sizing appropriate. Nobody in the industry does, except for, you guessed it, second hand sellers.
Make it a good habit to ditch sizing labels, and just measure actual waist, rise, inseam, leg opening, pit-to-pit, collar width, sleeve length, back length etc. and put that on the label. It would also dramatically cut returns.
