Lead vocals in Melodyne: Fast and easy editing

In the studio, multiple layers of vocals often have to be tracked in succession. In this video, Rich shows an efficient workflow for this task.

First, the Correct Pitch macro is used to quickly and broadly tune any instrument or voice. This makes it very easy to lay down additional vocal takes as the reference tracks will be right on pitch.

Next, when the session is over (or the singer needs a break), it's time for a more nuanced approach. For this, Rich uses the Pitch Correction tool to gently nudge any note, or instantly snap it exactly to the intended pitch. Finally, he goes into detail about using the Pitch Modulation and Pitch Drift tools to even out and still maintain the human value of the performance. These tips are excellent for helping to achieve natural sounding pitch correction.

Very nice for Tom Segura to take time off his stand up schedule to teach us about pitch correction!! hahaha But seriously great video!!

Those F notes at the top were flat and should have been F# in the key of DM, my OCD bells were ringing because you didn’t address them. But nice tutorial anyway.

Does anybody happen to know why my assistant does not sync up for playback?

I’m in ProTools 12.4 and I literally have to scroll to find where it is, and then follow along.

I have clicked “auto scroll” at the bottom right which doesn’t seem to do anything. 🤷‍♂️

please 😊

Hi Rich. Great Video!! I had a song where i liked everything but the end of one word went flat. I tried the pitch correction tool but it wasn't doing it. When i saw how you did the pitch drift tool I did that and it was perfect. Thank you for making this.

Just picked up my first copy of Melodyne and this was incredibly helpful. Loving the tool so far. Seems like it should be harder or take more work to make the vocals sound this good hahahahaha.

On this demo it says D Major as the Scale, using the macro tuning, 3 notes went to F, rather than F#. surely that's not correct?
