And now for your Monday morning moment of zen: Char turning a bowl with some help from Logan.

Char has set a goal for herself to turn every place she travels, and was recently in town to film an episode of @WoodsmithShowandmagazine. Logan was more than happy to introduce her to traditional turning tools and show her some of the techniques and how they differ from the carbide tools she normally turns with.

My very good friend is going to mentor me, and the first thing he demanded I buy was a face shield!

Great projects but I always use a face shield when turning. I've seen wood fly off the lathe and knock a hole in a plaster board (drywall) wall, I don't want that to happen to my face. I wear a leather turning apron for the same reason.

I also use a dust mask, the smell of the wood flying over your shoulder is great but it's not so great for your lungs.

I teach wood turning classes and do 1:1 mentoring on the lathe. If I see ANYONE using the lathe without a face shield . . . they are suspended for 24 hours from the space.

thumb down.... NO FACE SHIELD!!!! When it comes in doing bowls, and using only eye protection, doesn't effen cut it as being safe. More Woodturners are severely injured or killed because of bowl turning, only because they weren't using a Face Shield.
