In the process of better understanding AI role in the creative fields, I bumped into AI art pros on Discord, and this is what I learned from them:

00:00 Intro
00:27 You are early
01:33 Artists have been using this technology for years
02:16 AI artists receive death treats.
03:00 Get curious or be left behind
03:34 AI is your partner, not an enemy
04:28 Very few will make it BIG

It would mean a lot if you would consider to SUBSCRIBE :)
Thank you!

Thanks Goda for making our conversation into a video! Really enjoyed the questions you were asking, and the fact that you took the time to create a video that will hopefully educate people on the edge of the space.
One thing I wanted to add: I continued to mention Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, and DALL-E only because they are the most well-known models available to people.
For those who are really interested in this technology, I highly recommend stepping away from those and reading the technical documentation for tools such as Huemin's JAX Diffusion and Disco Diffusion- these models came way before Stable and MJ, and they were the pillars upon which the popular models were built. They allow you to control most (if not all) parameters at play, so you can begin to experiment and learn much more along the way! You'll have a much deeper appreciation and understanding of models such as the more popular ones after spending time figuring out how the open-source models that came before them function!

My main concern is bad actors, and the unethical scraping of copyrighted art. Until regulations are put in place that make these tools fair form everyone, I cannot see myself using them knowing how many people they hurt

Imagine people being against companies that use data laundering through non-profit legal loopholes to build a COMMERCIAL product to sell to non-artist customers stating that they "hope to replace the tedious process of creating art"—those must be some KaReNs oh my gohd. Putting jokes and sarcasm aside here: A pattern recognition system trained on stolen (art)work should be illegal. A lot of the same stuff is also happening to my choice of career which is software development, with the whole Github code data scraping issue from Microsoft. This doesn't really scare me, but the precedence that this sets for our "partnership" with AI and the companies that make them is in my opinion, one that any reasonable human being would disagree with.

I am glad that you tried to approach the subject without having the faintest idea of what it truly is about, more people should be like that(this is not meant as sarcasm). I just hope you will try to further educate yourself and pick your opinion from a broader pool before presenting it and potentially misguiding your audience.

I truly believe this could lead to being used in a very evil way is the problem. What happens when an artist or model for example signed to an agency. They own you now. You can't preform? Too bad. AI will preform for you. Creepy. Can't get with it.

my problem isn't with the tool. it's the way they TRAINED the tool. and no i haven't given any of them death threats. however i think they need to be more aware of peoples rights.

I think it's naive to think that this technology won't replace artists, and I haven't really heard many compelling arguments on why it won't.

What's stopping large corporations from cutting artists out or lowering their pay for the sake of more profits? The freelance art industry will not survive this, and it already is suffering. Freelance work is usually the start for many beginner artists who want to start a career in art, and I've already known many that have seen a decline in commissions in the past few months.

The guy even says himself in the video that the few that will be successful with this technology are the ones that have established connections with companies, so in the end, the beginner gets the short end of the stick. How would a beginner at that time end up setting a name for themselves? Of course there will be outliers, but those are few and far between.

And to those who are going to type "you shouldn't have gotten into art for the money anyway." Is it wrong to want to work off your passion? Is it literally not what 99.9% of people in the industry are doing right now? In a society that bases your worth off your income, is it wrong to do so? Many of us aren't asking to be bathed in several hundreds of dollars. The majority of us simply want a space to work in, the equipment, and good enough income for basic or even subpar living standards, and I don't see a future where the beginner artists can even get that with this technology.

AI-generated content is boring me lately.
I've never been a fan of AI, but I'm not here to talk about why you don't like this tool. Despite my antagonism towards this technology I still kept up to date with the news, I followed several pages, especially those that focus on image generation.
From an aesthetic point of view though AI art is getting better with each passing day paradoxically begins to impress me less and less, the reasons are 2: monotony and quantity.
Even though the AI has improved a lot and makes far fewer technical errors I can still distinguish at least 9 times out of 10 if it's an image made by a human or a machine.
Those lights, that way of positioning the elements, the expressions, the way of positioning things, paradoxically I liked those absurd fever dreams that were generated a year ago much more on an artistic level.
It was something really different now as now everything seems more monotonous and less interesting.
Quantity is the second point, when I visit a traditional artist's page I enjoy scrolling to the bottom to his early work to see the artistic evolution, just as I like to read a comic like Scott Pilgrim and observe how different the first volume is from the last. On the AI art profiles there is simply too much stuff, in one month you see a mass of works uploaded that would have taken at least a year for a traditional artist. I scroll, I keep scrolling and I don't seem to see anything really new, the eye soon tires and I soon lose interest.
A few months ago AI scared me, now I see it almost like spam messages in my inbox.
Frankly, I wonder if those who work on Midjourney or other generators still enjoy themselves as at the beginning, I had a friend who was all enthusiastic about this world, I saw his interest fade away more and more day after day.

Why the hell you name yourself the artists? You're literally asking someone else doing artwork for you.

The sad thing is there have been people for many years using objects to make art (Drawing a simple umbrella but using a flex straw as the handle, taking bananas, and putting shoelaces on it to make them look like shoes making a set of lungs with orange slices.) but if I use an AI tool to make some art then use photoshop to make that into a completely original piece of art that I created people say "No that's not art." Rappers have been sampling songs for years and people consider that art. People have been using other things to incorporate into art for who knows how long and since a computer made it, it's not art? All I have to say to people that say that is FU!

Hi Goda, just discovered your channel. You are super smart. I love how you pepper your videos with funny clips. You are a good teacher and generous with your information. To be honest I kind of hate AI lol. But I would never post hater comments! Ps. Are you an AI artist? Do you have a video that showcases your art?

Good Afternoon Goda ...I have so many comments regarding this presentation, but dont worry I have summarized them all into 2 sentences, or maybe ...3 !
First, the people that are upset and sending death threats about AI the same people with the large buckets of popcorn in the theatres being mesmerized by films with car chases, explosions and creatures from far away travels into unknown galaxies ...their eyes are wide open at the magic world unfolding before them at times raging and at other times crying real tears. Who can forget the famous " ET Home" ...and the hero travels through time into their hearts....his vehicle ? AI art ! Why are they upset??...Ignorance ? fear?? ...AI interrupted the popcorn movie fantasies the world of make believe was selling, and now that this world is at our fingertips we run hide behind the curtains with our thumbs in our mouths ...so yes, they will kick and bite and scream until they are challenged again and are mesmerised once again by the digital popcorn they are too busy consuming to notice the real hero working to keep them at the edge of their seats.
We are early .. we have only opened a new box of crayons...we have only started to understand this toy ....wait until we master it and ...challenge it. One day we will look at this art being generated with the same curiosity and amusement the we look at cave drawings at our museums.
Again...I enjoyed your content...Have a nice day!

Great video!
You know this is not the first time artist are freaking out that art is dying. When camera was invented there was huge outcry that every single painter will become obsolete since anyone with camera could replicate a landscape or a person in much greater detail than any painter could. I'm sure camera users got good deal of threats in early days.

But as we know the "art" didn't die and was not replaced by pictures. Well of course now it's rare to get your portrait painted and you only get photographed but hey, it wasn't usual to get portrait painted back then too! That was expensive and everyone not wealthy just didn't get any visual replication of their family.

Given tho that photoing reduced the demand of copying people's faces in paint, the painters evolved to trying to document more than cameras could. They started experimenting with abstract things, like how to capture a feeling of landscape instead of the physical appearance.
That lead a artistic revolution and transformed and diversified the whole field. In future we probably will see this was a point when lots of new things was born. And as another point in history when the art didn't die.

Good stuff but your voice comes out only on the left side :( checked your other videos and those seem fine. When i wear headphones i typically don't fully cover my left ear(i prefer hearing the surroundings). Most content is kind of equal left/right, so this audio situation confused me for a moment
Just my lil quality feedback
