I was very hesitant between these two models. Finally we chose Dreame. We have been using the X40 ultra for a few weeks now. X40 ultra + tricut brush is the perfect combination! We are super happy with the X40 ultra. I'm still amazed at how well the robot mops! Especially that I don't have to worry about long hairs thanks to the tricut brush.

Great purchase! By this video and my own experiences I can see that I made the right choice. Jamie thank you too your videos helped me a lot with my choice! 👍🏻👍🏻

I sell both Roborock and Dreame robot vacuums and have been for a few years. We handle all warranty issues through our stores without relying on either of the companies.

Now that we've had both brands for a few years this is what our statistics look like right now when it comes to issues and warranty-covered repairs:

Roborock has a warranty/repair rate of roughly 8% of every unit sold in our store.
Dreame has a warranty/repair rate of roughly 4% of every unit sold in our store.

This is just over 2, 5 years of data. Just to finish with another point: People satisfied with their product rarely leave post on forums as opposed to people unhappy with whatever issue they might have. Which is why our industry never puts any weight on simply what customers say - we rely on qualified repairmen to give us the feedback and statistics.

Also in my own anecdote - I've had both, and can say personally I much more prefer Dreame X40.

That said, keep up the good work!

I just scooped up an X40 Master on sale through amazon for $1200! It was only at that price for a couple weeks early December. To offset any concerns of reliability I also got an extended warranty/insurance (amazon) for $115 for 4 years! Previously had a Roborock S7 Max V Ultra which was good but did eat a lot of cords and would get stuck on occasion. This thing is a big upgrade in all regards, and especially for not having to fill/empty water tanks! I will never go back to that!
Thanks for the great review, it really helped me, especially since the roborock S8 MaxV Ultra with Refill & Drainage System was also on sale for $1200 at the same time!

Thank You Jamie. I ordered the Dreame X40 Ultra today. Your review convinced me the Dreame X40 Ultra was the way to go.

4:56 THANK YOU! I don’t know why so many others breeze over the side brush not spinning on carpet. This is such a huge miss for someone like me that has a tiled main floor but all carpeted upstairs.

Thank you for this great video series!

One of our main considerations is pet hair. From watching the individual videos, it appears the Dreame is better here. But it would be nice if you included that as part of the evaluation since it seems the roborock had serious problems with hair getting wrapped around the roller and having to clean it manually.

What a coincidence re the timing of this video. Today I've finally got round to setting up my X40 about 2 months after it arrived. I haven't done the mapping run yet but the setup was pretty easy.

My unit (actually the X40 Master because it has the plumbed in dock) has a voice assistant. I've kept it turned off but the app definitely seems to think I can say "OK Dreame" and then things like "Start cleaning", "Clean the living room" etc.

I'm glad you continue to call out Dreame re not using the side brush on carpets. I'm going to experiment with telling it to ignore carpets that I think will get it to spin its side brush. I'll just need to be careful to only specify mopping in rooms that really are hard floors (my kitchen & 2 bathrooms) and be careful that the room boundaries (doorway positions) for those rooms are very accurately set so that it doesn't stray onto the edge of the carpet in the adjoining room when mopping a hard floor. I'll see how it goes and try to remember to report back here.

Thanks for the comparison! Does the X40 Ultra win out vs. all other premium robot vacuums too? My top priorities are obstacle avoidance (pet toys) and vacuum + mopping on hardware floor (with some carpets) + something that is “set it and forget it” (self emptying, true hot water washing, etc). Thanks

You're reviewing these R2D2s like

Roborock really changed many people’s lives 4 years ago when it first introduced carpet sensor mop lift. I bought it 4 years ago and it has helped my life more than my government tbh. But looks like dreame has since overtaken it. I have ordered a x40. Looking forward to it.

Hmmm, i think I might get the Dreame X40 with the tricot brush as it seems its the perfect for what I need. But is there another vacuum you’d recommend? Or what you personally are using? Basically need it for dust/long hair and food crumbs around the kitchen and mopping abilities. Also object avoidance is a must. Is Dreame X40 just to get for my needs or is there one you personally recommend for my needs??. Its 95 percent hardwood floors. Have one carpet in the dining room. Price isnt an issue

Have you considered using test dust or other finer particle material? Cat litter and rice are both pretty big compared to most household dust and from other tests I've seen this does seem to make a significant difference especially on carpet vacuum tests.

Hello thanks for this fantastic review. Mopping performance is my choice criteria but I don’t have the budget for the X40 ultra. Which model should I buy? The L40 ultra? I can’t understand the differences between the L and the X40
Thanks

What’s the best bot overall for vacuum and mopping for 2024?

Would you suggest the x40, the Freo Z or another robot? I've got a mix of hardwood and carpet as well as pets.

The pet hair gets out of control, and there can be dog toys around. I'd have the robot running once, maybe twice a day every day.

One thing you should mention for the S8 is the ability to attach a plumbing connection, never have to fill the clean, or empty the dirty, water tank; very convenient.

Hi Jaime! Love your videos. Having a hard time deciding between the roborock q revo (probably the plus) this dreame x40, and maybe the eufy s1. We have a cat and downstairs is hardwood with a rug and upstairs is all carpet. What would you recommend based on that?

You gotta compare the X40 to the Curv.

@Jamie Andrews thank you for this review. Can you please do the review with the same roborock vaccum and the dreame L40 it seems everyone says it’s amazing but I have a feeling the side brushes still don’t work on carpet which is ridicules as my whole apartment is carpeted and I would think it wouldn’t clean the edges of the room :(
