If you were really a Vols fan, you wouldn’t pronounce it “Voles”or “Vooles” or whatever that was, yankee. It’s VOLS, (as in “Vahhls”, short for “Volunteer” ). A vole is a small rodent. Vols are Tennesseeans who volunteered in droves for the War of 1812 and all wars and natural disasters since., Hence we are the “Volunteer State” known for our “Volunteer spirit”becuase we all stand up together to fight, or help a neighbor, or do whatever needs to be done…….not a rodent.
