AOC Blasts Republican Men's Abusive Treatment of Women in House Floor Speech

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's objections to a Republican lawmaker's verbal assault on her expanded Thursday as she and other Democrats have taken to the House floor.

In about an hour of speeches, they've demanded an end to a sexist culture of "accepting violence and violent language against women." In an incident witnessed by a reporter, the Florida GOP Rep. Ted Yoho angrily confronted Ocasio-Cortez on the House steps this week and called her names for asserting that higher joblessness and poverty could account for some crime increases.

Yoho expressed some contrition this week, but Ocasio-Cortez has rejected it as insufficient.

I respect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for representing the poor who can't buy off politicians. Yelling profanities gets in the way of reasoned discourse and getting things done and reflects lack of character and upbringing . I don't believe in just giving people money but I believe everyone deserves the right to be productive, to have a job and self respect. If private industry doesn't provide sufficient job openings, the government should step in with jobs to make America a better place. There is so much that needs to be done like producing sufficient covid tests for everyone, contact tracing, and cleaning up our cities. If we want to make America better, we need to stop name calling and provide solutions.
