Yes. Their brutality was so over the top and above the rest of the world that we can still see its genetic aftermath in cartel behaviour. And just general attitude to death and violence in Central and South Americas in general.

The people there seem desensitised to violence. They behave completely obliviously to the most horrific stuff. I have seen a plethora of extremely brutal videos showing this. Things that would empty a western street in terror don't even stop the kids from playing, shopkeepers from cleaning or the women from chatting parts of the Americas.

It's remarkable. The most horrific violence is just part of everyday life. And that is *now.* Imagine half a millenia ago.
