Much of the gestures and staging of the traditional Christian marriage rite was determined by the expectation that the male participants would be armed with swords. Rules as to who should stand on what side, shake with what hand, kneel, etc., were established to symbolically and practically limit those armed with swords from easily accessing them in that setting. Thanks so much for another excellent video.
