When it comes to IELTS mistakes, there are big ones and small ones. The biggest mistakes will have the most severe impact on your score, and there can be little doubt that capitalisation falls into that category. It is something that young children are likely to know.

However, within the area of capitalisation, there are also big and small errors. The most basic facts about using capital letters (also known as "upper case letters") are that they should be used at the beginning of a sentence and for proper nouns. However, it is not always easy to know what is or isn't a proper noun, and so in this video I will point out a few common problems.

I've also gathered a little bit of evidence from a 2019 study that shows why people struggle with capitalisation and what sorts of issues may affect them most. As such, if you want to learn all about this so that you can avoid making these mistakes, then watch the full video! If you think you already know this stuff, you can use the chapters to navigate to any part that is particularly useful for you:

You are the best IELTS teacher on YouTube, I highly recommend you to work a little bit more on the editing of your videos because it will immensely boost the views of your videos, and this way more and more people will have the chance to get such excellent content from you.

Thank you very much, sir,

Hi,

What do you think of starting a task 1 essay with the "The given table..." or "The given line graph ..." etc.
