I was a Boy Scout many years ago. A camp out turned bad when the temperature dropped a bunch and we ran back to our tents and tried to stay warm. Our Scoutmaster had a BIG Dutch oven and made a beef stew while we hid and cried. It was one of the best things I had ever eaten. As a bonus he made peach cobbler in the same Dutch Oven for dessert. We went home the next day, well fed and a little chilly.

One more great video, I have a dutch oven that was given to me from and old timer. That oven came to Wyoming before it was even a state. I have cooked a thousand meals in and if could only talk and tell ya about the people it fed coming across the trail.

I use cast iron almost on a daily basis, and I just recently learned that if you preheat the cast iron pot it makes it almost non stick. Never too old to learn new things.

Cast iron cookware is so important it should be given as graduation gifts for young people. I've had to give up my large heavy duty pan bc of my arthritic hands and wrists so I use a griddle and a small fry pan. I've had mine for more than 40 years!

That little "contraption" is variously known as a folding spider, a folding trivet, etc., Christa. A true "spider" usually refers to either a sheet steel frying pan with legs attached, or the long handled thing that resembles a strainer, which is often used when deep-frying foods.

I have lots of cast iron! Yes very valuable, I use it every morning for breakfast. Have the small 1 I use for my hubby's food, he eats wheat products and appreciates food cooked in butter, so I don't get ill from his way of eating. When I do onions I make them in my pan, Wagner, with olive oil, slow and low, covered with a lid for about 1-2 minutes, onions still has crunch. With his eggs in butter hubby doesn't seem to complain.
I currently cook on a cast iron 2 burner stove on a metal camp table for charcoal cooking.

There are other health benefits to using cast iron - it's good for the blood. Rather than polluting the body with residue from non-stick surfaces, you actually contribute minute amounts of iron to your system. This became important for me during an intense time of anaemia. I could not take iron tablets, had a bad reaction. I would not take a blood transfusion, so the doctor said I should use cast iron. They even make great tea pots!!

I have heard again recently that cast iron cooking is the healthiest for you- it can add needed iron into your body, too, they say. I inherited several cast iron skillets and a dutch oven from my mother and grandmother so I feel blessed. Mom always said "keep them oiled!" They can get rusty.Somewhat like our spiritual lives! Thanks for your vids-always enjoyable and uplifting! (Hope you didn't inhale too much smoke in this one!)

I started out with just a few pieces of cast iron when I was married and now I have well over 40 pieces which includes my dad's pancake griddle, my husband's grandma's #8 Griswold, my aunt's #8 unmarked Lodge. Each piece has a story of either who it belonged to or where it came from. And one day I can pass it on to my kids. This was a great video.

Those gloves are welder's gloves and became so handy for campfire cooking that you can now buy them specifically for that. Great video!!! We have nine 'daily use' pieces of cast iron.

the rings from a canning jar work good as a temporary devise to keep food off of the bottom of the cookware.

Not a day goes by that I don't use my cast iron cookware. Have been for years. I have skillets, all sizes, a large chicken fryer/dutch oven that is so great to use. My only other cookware is stainless steel and glass baking pans. I love the dutch oven she has with the legs..so cool!

I love using my cast iron skillet! It was my grandmas, then my mom's and now mine. I'm 65 years old. It must be well over 100 years old!

I first learned about cast iron cooking from my sister's mother-in-law. She was an Ozarks farm woman who was the best cook I have ever known. I have skillets from a no. 3 up to a incher, griddle, and dutch oven. Also I have 5 pair of the fire gloves that way I can dedicate a pair to the smoker, grill, cooktop, and oven. Great video and you forgot another great source to get cast iron. Estate sales, once you know what to look for you can go to these and get excellent seasoned cast iron for great prices.
