thats insane, Ive always done it the way my grandpa taught me which was a rope attached to the boat and I would get partially on the trailer grab the rope and climb off the boat and then use the rope to guide it in place before hooking the latch. but this right here is simply magic

As another commenter pointed out, the video is running in reverse..the winch is unpowered and the handle is free wheeling, the only way that happens is when there is cable being released. There is also no trap mechanism on the bow of the boat. Though the concept is feasible. The air force had a similar mechanism back in the 50's to retrieve downed airmen .
