I was told that Mike Tyson's father showed up one day out of the blue like this, after Mike had unified the heavyweight title of course! Mike's mother died when he was 12, and he basically raised himself on the streets of Brooklyn! As long as there is breath in my body, my children are going to KNOW they have a father who loves them!

If y'all noticed James Brown always had a certain Swagger and style to his voice he's always spoke with such soul except in this scene this is one of the only moments he got serious

I really like these rags to riches movies where a famous figure grows up with abusive parental figures, finds a way to escape that abusive past, and make something spectacular of themselves. It shows that despite having parents who abuse and/or abandon you at a young age as long as you keep your faith and strive to become a better person than they are your future will be become better and brighter.

Obviously James 's father wasn't the most loveable & agreeable father or husband. So it's understandable why she left her husband but why didn't she take James with her?? Hmm maybe she really didn't want him....

This is the same thing that Tommy Sotomayor points out. Black women want credit for simply bringing us to term; even if they choose not to raise and take of us adequately or at all.
