Growing up in Vallejo the Benicia Arsenal and the MARAD fleet in Suisun Bay were fixtures. Later, I worked with Joe Pecararo at the fleet. Joe was committed to environmental protection and was an excellent superintendent for the ships in the fleet. Salute!

It’s amazing to see the early video and archival pictures of the reserve fleet of ships. Especially in the early days there were tons of ships at Suisun Bay. I believe the reason/purpose of the reserve fleet is a war or conflict broke out, the ships would be re activated and upgraded into service again.

I remember seeing them from the Suisun bridge as a kid. Ships from a time when (Made in America) was a source of pride! Now it made in china and uber profit for a few.
