How to set a default Folder View for all folders in Windows 11/10

In Windows File Explorer, you might have noticed the different folder layout settings for different folders. Some of the folders have smaller icons while some put on a large icons view layout. There are several folder layouts available in Windows 11/10/8/7 which you can choose from, for any folder. While Windows has set these defaults based on the nature of the files in the folder, if you wish, you can set a default Folder View for all folders.

There are 5 folder templates:

1] General Items – Applies to any folder that contains a mixed combination of files and other sub-folders.

2] Documents – Applies to the folders that contain documents (Word files, text files, etc.)

3] Pictures – Applies to the folders that contain image files (.jpg, .png files, etc.)

4] Music – Applies to all such folders which contain music files (.mp3, .wav, etc.)

5] Videos – Applies to any folder that contains just video items (.mp4, .avi, etc.)

You can apply a folder’s view settings to only those folders which are optimized for the same folder template type. Once the view layout is generalized for a folder template type (say, Music), every time you change the layout of file icons (from tile icons to large icons), the same will be reflected in other folders as well that are optimized for Music template.

You might want to consider adjusting your sound. The intro was so loud that it startled my cats, but the actual content was so low I had to turn the audio back up. Not a huge deal, just kind of a pain. That's all. :)

Thank you for the clear tutorial. Unfortunately, the steps you show apply only to a specific folder type. As far as I know, nobody has figured a way to apply a custom setting to ALL folders. I want only Name, Size and Date Modified to appear in the template. Perhaps the latter is possible in a configuration of the registry.

This only applies to folders of the same "type" and not to all folders.

Thank you for the suggestion, did not work, and it switches back the details view every update. I HATE WINDOWS 10, IT SUCKS, and they shut down the thread in Microsoft support faq. They do not care about the user. We lost the "all folder" default option in windows 8, SCUMBAGS!

This helped but I gave a thumbs down for the music. You folks need to cut it out with that stuff. At least make it quieter, damn.

Strongly suggesting: Do a show of testing to show whether it is successful or not to complete your demo.

OUCH! HOLY GOD CHANGE YOUR AWFUL INTRO/OUTRO MUSIC PLS!

but thanks for the tidbit of info, I found your video while I was really trying to set the default list of tabs in Details View, like Date Last Modified, File Name, Cloud Status, etc. Is there anyway to apply a default setting for the order of info presented in Details View to All folders? Thanks!

Very usefull!!! thank you!!!!
btw, you need to do it for every type of media tho. you can make folders detailed like, but your images will still be as you had them b4. to correct this, you need to go to a folder with pics and put them however you want. same with videos, program files, images, etc. but it's still great cuz you don't have to do it individually, literally just about 5-6 times depending on the type of files you have!

Worthless info. It does not work. There is no button or anything else that says "Aply to ALL Folders. It only says "Aply to Foder" with out the "ALL" and will only aply that one folder meanig that i anly works for the typ of folder wiy the samme type of files in it. Like Photo folders if that the one you changed

for anyone still wondering, the trick is to first reset, and then set. i think it a windows caching issue

This really does work, it saves me from having to jump from folder to folder and set the view myself, I only need to pay you with my gratefulness.
