You need a lot of driveway for a side entry garage. That driveway needs to be 23’- 27’ (minimum) just to be able to put a decent size car or truck in the garage. I graded for a living and I’ve seen so many people end up leaving their vehicles out of the garage because they didn’t have a wide enough driveway to put their vehicle in. Everyone loved a side entry until they realized they didn’t have enough room for a larger pad in front of the garages.

Unless you've got lots of land and don't mind wasting a bunch of it on driveway, avoid the side entry garage. If I were going to pour a much larger driveway, I'd look into enclosing it to have a front entry garage with more stalls.

What about a RV garage type ranch house, 3 bedrooms 2 1/2 bathrooms, open concept kitchen/living room. Then studio in the back of your garage with the 1/2 bathroom for guess/game or craft room with walkout French doors to the woods with Japanese’s type yard one big flat deck that surrounds a natural rectangle shaped pool.

Most subdivision lots only allow that if you have a lot on the end of a street that intersects with another. Otherwise there isn’t room for that.

Actually with the neighborhood I'm in, I'd rather be able to see my car from EVERY window and door. We have a "garage" that is accessible from the alley behind the house, but that gets broken into so much we don't even use it.

Don't build your house like you want it, build what somebody else wants instead.

My neighbor has a side garage, they had so much trouble pulling in, they had to get their driveway paved wider so they could get car and small truck in garage without jocking to get in. I like my garage in the front I built the house for me, not the next guy.
