Building a gaming PC is pretty easy process in 2019 but even after years of experience, these are some common mistakes we STILL make. Regardless of whether its a gaming PC build or just a productivity PC.

Step 1. Don't watch a The Verge video about building a pc.

Do not forget to put I/O shield before motherboard ( now kinda solved on higher end MBs)

Also if you plug your PC into a power strip, make sure the power strip is turned on and plugged in...
Did that on my first editing pc

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that always forgets to turn on the power supply.

Some things not to forget!
1. Anti Static bracelet
2. Enough thermal paste, you can never have enough, I recommend at least a gallon.
3. A table
4. face the motherboard west when assembling, doing so allows the ram to download more effectively

I cant make any mistakes, because i dont have money to buy components

First-timer mistake I made: Plugging the HDMI cable into the mobo instead of the GPU.

Buying a case to transfer my rig then finding out it doesn't have the CPU clearance for my CPU cooler. Rookie mistake.

Don't worry Dimitri, we all been there. Especially the m2 screws.

Make sure your components fit! I went with the NZXT H200 without realizing my thicc 1080ti wasn't gonna fit.

I'm so happy to say, with zero knowledge about building a pc. just looking at the manuals I build a beast of pc with no mistake. I literally made none.. HELL

Great video Dimitry, really enjoyed this one because my favorite phrase whenever I'd help out a friend for a build project, was "Learn from my mistakes" smh . . . I've built probably 8-10 full systems, but I've installed countless amounts of hardware from PSU"s, graphics cards, hard drives, ram, etc. I'm proud to say that everything I know about builds, I learned all on my own. And you know what THAT means huh Dimitry ? ? ....Below are a few of my more memorable mistakes ;

1. Not only have I used the wrong standoffs, but once or twice I screwed in a standoff. . . . . in the WRONG spot ! ! ! Only after I carefully lowered the mobo into the case, secured the wires for the power harness, to find out the standoff was put in the wrong spot. And wouldn't you know it, that it was the first standoff put into the case.

2. Didn't pay attention to the schematic on the mobo wire diagram. As a result, the fragile case power wires. . . only ONE of them, was placed on the wrong peg. I know what you're thinking; "just pull it off the peg and insert it onto the right one dummy" ! ! ! Sounds like a great idea, buuut I rerouted a bunch of wires to run along the bottom edge of the mobo [of course that's the busiest area of the mobo [usb headers, blu ray sound wires, big thick mobo power wires from the psu to the 24 pin etc]. But wait, there's more. I spent a considerable amount of time to route all the wires and tucked away loose ones, gave alot of thought how it would look, would I have to move it again, etc etc. Guess what I had to do make enough room to pull the wire pin out.

3. Replacing an old video card for a nice spankin new one oh . . . muahahahaha !!! Well, bottom line, thank god I didn't damage anything, but As I was trying to remove the card from the pcieX slot, I forgot to unplug the monitor to card wire. I felt the card get caught up on something, so I jiggled it around a bit. I probably broke off a very small piece of card pcb fin, but it was so small it made no diff. Checked the mobo with a flashlight and all was good.

4. Took side cover off my case, forgot the fan on side cover was still plugged in, and pulled hard on the small fragile cable. one of the 3 prong fan wires got bent and broke off :(

Welp, those are a few of my more memorable moments in PC building. But you know guys, I look back now and I have to say I don't regret any of it. I tell ya, there's nothing like seeing that glorious post screen logo come up after you boot the bitch up for the first time. I kinda felt like the mad scientist bring Frankenstein to life muahahaha !

Peace out !!

Yet another good video from HC.

1. More substance, less gimmics/eye candy
2. More thorough and comprehensive
3. No one shouting, esp. above loud music
4. Honest tips, without the macho stuff.

I can definitely see myself referring this to newbies. Thanks

Common mistakes in my experience:
- Not doing enough research on component dimensions to see if everything has enough clearance esp. in mini-ITX builds & 120/140/240/280mm radiator builds!
- Over provisioning on the PSU; thinking you need a massive PSU for your components, when in fact you don't at all. Get a PSU calc & do the maths!
- Thinking you can use all your SATA ports on your Motherboard while having your M.2 slots occupied; think again!
- Over tightening screws and then stripping them!
- Understanding the difference between UEFI & Legacy Booting and thinking you can change it easily post OS installation.
- If you are doing dual boot, install Windows first, Windows does not respect boot sector, and you will have to reinstall GRUB from your Linux installation.
- Not understanding AHCI vs ATA on SATA controllers, and not having a driver present upon OS installation; albeit older installs.
- Not understanding GPT vs MBR partitioning schemes for larger drives, esp. booting RAID1 installations.
