External ear (& skin cancer)

As we're working through the anatomy of the ear let's have a look at the parts of the external ear, and the auricle in particular. The ears stick out and can get more UV radiation than other parts of the body, so let's also talk about the different types of skin cancer.

Thank you for giving a detailed view of the outer ear. Many YouTube videos say "Outer Ear" on their video title and only describe the interior.

Thank you for the detailed explanation, I was at the Dr. today and may have been ignoring for the past few years a sore in my " conch " region of my left ear ( drivers side ) that may well be a serious issue. I will have it looked at ASAP, well-done thanks for sharing your knowledge and insight!

Thank you Dr Webster, as ever. Looks like I have either SCC or BCC on the helix of my ear. I ignored it for a long time, thinking it was a different sort of irritation. Biopsy next week, MOHS procedure. Fingers crossed. Rather terrified.

Thank you, this helped calm me regarding a recent bump on my ear. I am seeing the derm within 2 weeks of it coming on so hoping it is caught early.

Your explanation of the auricle being a "sound collector" to funnel sounds is (in my opinion) incorrect.
The true function of the pinna is a very simple process of binaural infusion, which is differential tones depending on which direction the sound is coming from, that binaural information then travels down the ear canal. Without the infused binaural information from the pinna, sound perspectives of external perceptions would be lost, and just like when you put headphones on and listen to your fave tracks, are all heard inside the head, simply due to the fact that there's no binaural information on the music tracks.
If we were to remove the pinna from our heads, we could only perceive sounds internally, until a pinna was reintroduced, then the external perceptions would be once again perceived.
I have no idea why the majority of these types of educational sound bite are saying the same thing, unless of course they are all reading the same book, I believe that the "book" needs to be re-written so that the correct reason of the pinna is realised. I have been working on binaural audio for just over 10 years and have conducted quite a few tests using my own cloned pinna, this is the only way to realise what the pinna function is, as using a set of pinna from either another individual or an artist's impression would be a total waste of time for accurate results/realisations of the function, in my humble opinion. There are more and more video's coming on to the YouTube platform showing the correct function, but they are as rare as hens teeth, so to speak! I wonder what your opinion of this idea resonates with you, Sam?

Please see this. About a month ago my tragus area started getting discolored a light black. Back to today, now it’s a bit dark. Doesn’t hurt and doesn’t itch. Feels a bit crusty when I rub it.
Have u heard of this?
