Data Backup & Recovery Plan Document

Written documentation... It's one of the things most IT people don't like to do. However, when done correctly it can be a life saver! Review your documents yearly and in this video we talk about what kind of information you can put in your data backup and recovery plan! When it hits the fan having a written plan will help you stay on task and ensure data can be recovered in a timely manner!

I have worked with a couple of IT companies in the past, and was alarmed how none of them had a Validation/Verification process in place to ascertain the backup procedure developed actually worked. Yes, you saw all the bits and bytes fly between local and remote NAS system, however, they never tested it. It took almost an act of God for me to get them to test a backup for me, and, unfortunately the test failed. I now do my own backups via Willie's help.

Might be worth adding a section on potential issues, their impact and responses. Things like NAS issues from drive failures to mobo failures to "Willie hit by a bus and didn't pay the C2 bill." Also potential impact of ransomware ("That's why we have backups") and longer duration infiltration (could information be gathered from a computer being backed up that would allow deletion of backups?).

I'd like see the real world alternative backup plan for 100k one ya did a while back! Also been checking OMV to replace my freeNAS and get into a Debian base rather than freeBSD - it's pretty awesome once ya get rolling! As always great video Willie! Keep em coming!

Would love to compare notes on what that list of documentation looks like. We are still fine tuning things on contracts and other items.
