I had this happen in my old taxi coming out of the Birkenhead tunnel in Liverpool Just as I exited the tunnel I pulled over to this, the giant fans that pull air into the tunnel was pulling my fumes in only my fumes was black it was like a scene from batman or something hahaha plus it was 3am my head was gone I swear I thought the thing was gonna blow up 😂

Thats actually a tough little engine. Not many engines last a while when running away lol

Had this start to happen in my 2000 golf tdi… turbo blew, and I quick found a parking lot, put it in 3rd gear and dumped the clutch…. Had like 1/2qt of oil left after that! Plugged turbo oil feed line, added oil and limped it home.

The real problem is: free entry of air along with accumulated oil in the air cooler. Oil from damaged turbo. You accelerate and the engine pulls accumulated oil. perfect combination to feed the engine at full rpm. oil works as fuel

I was driving a 7 tonner in Dublin a few years ago when the turbo seal went and the engine went into run away mode. There is nothing you can do to stop it. The whole street came to a standstill because the smoke was so dense. One of the pistons nipped up and stopped the engine, peace descended 😂

If this ever happens while I'm driving, I'm trying the high gear trick... but I'm not popping the bonnet and shoving my head over the engine to remove the engine cover, disconnect the air hose and choke it after 20s or so...

By then its ready to go bang and I value the head on my shoulders more than the head on my engine 😅

Youre supposed to cut off all intake air my guy dont just sit there and let it grenade💀

if its a manual and youre still inside you could try to put it in the highest gear and let you clutch go which essentially stalls the car
(as far as i know)
