The British public faces being called up to fight in the event of a war with Russia because the military is "too small", the head of the Army has warned.

General Sir Patrick Sanders warned the Government of the need to "mobilise" the public if the UK goes to war with Russia.

Sir Patrick wants British men and women to be prepared to fight if Nato goes to war with Russia, who have gained the upper hand in their invasion of Ukraine.

It follows a warning by a senior Nato official that the West faces all-out war with Russia within 20 years.

Ben Kentish and Iain Dale hear from callers to get their thoughts on conscription:

00:00 - Caller Adam reveals why he's 'terrified of conscription.'
03:47 - Caller Carol says government are giving her 'nothing to fight for.'

As a veteran, there is no way on this planet I would sign up again or accept conscription. I'd rather go to prison.

Why would a 2nd class citizen fight a foreign war to come home broken both mentaly and phyisicaly only to be treated like a 3rd class citizen and quite possibly homeless?

I'd fight to remove this government and stop our country from starting wars.

The war is already raging in this government is systematically dismantling every honest worker out there....Income Tax, Council tax, Road Tax, Congestion charges, ULEZ, food, rent, cost of living increases, fuel hikes, housing illegal immigrants, struggles to get appointments for The Doctors, hospitals and Dentists. Knife crime where there is no lawful deterrent....Please feel free to add to this

Imagine fighting for a country where police come to your house for posting something on social media so we don't even have free speech anymore.

I wouldn't die or fight for a bunch of billionaires and a country that actively hates me .

I think the UK has reached a point in time where collectively they are saying nope, enough is enough, we aren't buying it, we aren't having it

I watched a interview with a veteran who stormed the beach at Normandy and his words were " if he could have seen what the future would have been like he wouldn't have bothered ".

The difference between now and WW2 is access to information and the truth. People now have woken up to the games played by politicians and world leaders. History has taught us we rush into wars and in the end it turns out not to be what it seemed.
Let's go ask our homeless veterans if they think it was worth fighting for. The way they are treated is disgusting!

NOT A CHANCE, THERE'S NOTHING LEFT TO FIGHT FOR. THEY'VE DESTROYED ANY TRACE OF ANYTHING WE HAD TO BE PROUD OF.

Would rather go to prison than fight other working class blokes from other countries. If the rich want wars they can go fight in them.

Oh what a surprise, people don't want to fight for poverty, stagnant wages, and never owning to your own home.

The Tories have cut the army in the name of austerity, the posh snobs should be first in line for conscription.

Let the overpaid politicians who caused these wars go and fight

The caller is spot on !. Why should we fight for this country when the country won’t fight for us .

We don't have a country. We have an economic platform with an open door policy.
