Always great to have a professional photographer admit that he cant be great in all situations. I admire your humble admissions regarding the sports and bird photos.

Matt, great review. Watching you balance that camera and lens combo on that bridge really had me on the edge of my seat!

Great review Matt! I actually sold my D5 and picked up a D500 mainly due to the extra reach, portability, and low ISO DR. I just didn't need to shoot over ISO 2500 so the D5 had no real advantages. I think everyone who is complaining about comparing the two just don't understand sports and wildlife shooters. Yes there is a massive price difference but if you're concerned with getting the shot that is best for you then that is irrelevant. At the end of the day the D500 was a better fit for me.

If you're shooting sports that camera does everything you need. Take the extra $3k and put it into glass.

Matt seems unaware the D5 costs $4000 more than the D500

My current D300 is on it's last leg and due for a replacement. The D500 is a no brainer for me.

Nice review, I especially liked the portrait shots. Welcome back Jade! :) I must say you also had some really good bird photos; wildlife has always been one of my preferred subjects to shoot.

I've got mine for about a month now and am absolutely happy with it. I bought two new lenses to couple with it, one of which is the Sigma 50-100mm F/1.8 DC Art and the other one is Nikon AF-S 200mm F/2G VRii. Both lenses work perfectly with my D500 and do exceptionally well in shooting sports. Please get a Sigma 50-100mm F/1.8 DC Art and do a full review. You'll be amazed by it. Cheers!

Great video & review! There are too many D500 reviews that don't keep a level head in their conclusions. Great job and review Matt!

The "secret sauce" regarding autofocus on the D500 is to add the grip AND the EN EL 18A ( D5/D4s) battery.
This battery is delivering 50% more voltage over the EN EL 15 and will drive the autofocus motor and VR system in Pro lenses to the max.
This principle also applies to the D810..

Why not do a real review using lenses that most people will be buying that don't cost $12K?

Hi Matt, love your videos just checking you're Nikon d500 video again. Do you think it's still a good buy for 2019 ?

My theory is that the D5 has a more powerful battery, running on higher voltage, and therefore drives the AF motor faster. The difference should be bigger, the bigger the lens. Keep up the good work!

NIce and logical comparison between the D500 and the D5. Fun to watch this review even though I'm leagues below it with my lowly D7100.

+Matt Granger, my understanding is the D500 doesn't have a pop-up flash to facilitate the extra-large (for APS-C) mirror box.

Hey Matt!
Great review, and thanks for doing it.
what do think about the D500 when upping the ISO? low light and for wildlife ?
Thanks

The fact that he is even comparing it to the D5 must mean it is a decent camera for what it is!

You're awesome Matt. Thanks for the vids. Thanks for just speaking like a normal photographer and not talking down to us like we've no idea what a camera is.

Matt, you looked like michael jackson dangling a kid off the balcony when you where holding that lens on the bridge. My heart skipped a beat. Great review.
