Chromosomes, DNA, Genes and Alleles

Показать описание
This video is currently set to unlisted but will be set to "public" upon official release. Official release is scheduled some time before the November 2016 examinations.
Student Note:
This video specifically targets NCEA Level 1 Genetics. It is intended to give sufficient coverage to "Excellence" grade whilst remaining suitable as an introductory video for those who need to play it over a few times.
In NCEA Level 1 Genetics you do not need to know how to draw the patterns/shapes which show how DNA is coiled/folded. Also note that all diagrams here are not to scale, as a "gene" can be several thousand bases long...
Teacher Note:
NCEA is a qualifications framework in New Zealand. This means the coverage in this video is limited to:
- definition of chromosomes, DNA, genes, alleles.
- structure of DNA (phosphate, sugar unit, bases, nucleotides) but not the molecular structure of bases.
- a very basic structure of chromosomes (i.e. does not cover how DNA is packaged/folded/coiled).
Other note:
Despite this video being only 2 minutes, it took almost an entire day to put together.
