An EMOTIONAL rollercoaster for this sheep farmer. ~ remembering an old sheep injury, but too late?

As we round into our last few weeks of gestation on our winter lambing group, the watch is on!
Fortunately, so far no signs of pregnancy toxemia... unfortunately, we've got a ewe babying her front right shoulder.

It took me a bit to realize this was a ewe who injured her shoulder after getting her head stuck in a gate... she had literally gone unnoticed since then, not even showing signs of limping, so I had lost track of her. Until now.

Ruby Sue is another uphill battle that I feel I'm losing.

Corn harvest is in full swing, and we couldn't ask for better weather!

The scene in the finishing barn when Sandi was walking up from the back feeder and a whole flock of lambs were following her reminded me perfectly of the children's rhyme that we all learned..."Mary had a little lamb, its fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went the lamb was sure to go". Awesome...the love of a lamb for its shepheress.

We debated whether to get a puppy. We discussed that at the age of 70+ we would be dealing with all that comes with an advanced age dog's final days. Now he is blind and diabetic and incontinent. We are helping him navigate, even in our house. He doesn’t seem to feel bad, so we limp along. My heart goes out to you and Ruby Sue. This is the hard part that comes after the joy and laughs a pet afford us. 😢
