Organic vs Grass-fed Protein Powders

Показать описание
If you prefer to use grass-fed whey protein powder for ethical reasons, then by all means, fork out a little extra cash for the stuff. If, however, you think it'll offer up superior health benefits, or you're concerned about antibiotics and hormones, your money may be going to waste.

First, you need to consider what exactly makes milk from grass-fed cows better for you. It's the fat! Organically raised, grass-fed cows have higher amounts of the all-important and essential Omega-3 fats, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and vitamin E (a fat-soluble vitamin) than their grain-fed counterparts and these nutrients are found in the milk fat.

But the protein is processed to isolate the protein from the carbs and the fat. In fact, a quality protein has close to 100 percent of the fat removed. This means that if a protein-powder manufacturer is using protein from organic milk, nearly all of the extra omega-3 fats, CLA, and vitamin E have been removed during the manufacturing process anyway!

The reason I buy organic protein powder is because it always comes without any added sweetener or flavour, I just want the pure stuff..

What you don't get with organic grass feed is glyphosate contamination. Also with no grain feeding (soy) you don't get animal fat and proteins synthesized from non optimal soy proteins. Dissagree if you like that's fine, but just look at good quality grass feed fat in beef vs grain finished. There is a difference in taste, color, and chewyness. The toughness people complain regarding grassfeed is from over cooking the beef. Grass feed is best served medium to rare or almost raw with just an outer layer seer. We need some credible research to look at grass feed milk proteins to determin if the soy feed is effecting the protein synthesis. I'm not waiting for the results I will buy organic grass feed just in case. Also I do not support the cafo animal production model so I'm voting with my dollar for better animal husbandry.

I was looking for an answer more related with the treatment the cows get. For me, that’s worth a price a little higher

I switched to grass fed organic protein basically because they're usually made with 4 or 5 natural ingredients. All the other ones have long lists of ingredients that I can't even pronounce and they're probably just fillers or chemicals.

Paying extra money for organic grass fed protein powder may cost more, however you are rewarding that company and the farmers for raising their animals the correct way, sustainably and humanely. Cattle raised in cafos fed low quality (and 99% of the time GMOs) grains and stuffed together are disease ridden and also have a lower quality by products. Molecularly, you are correct about the amino acids being the same, however your mistake is that you assume the product is free of any antibiotic, hormones, and toxins from a life of grazing GMOs, when in fact there will be residual contamination of the byproducts.

Jim Soypansie gives off the ultimate "snake oil salesman" vibes. I wouldn't buy a 1bs of food from him if I was starving to death.

Hi Jim, I'm Farid from Lima - Peru. I disagree with you on several things. first of all people who use grass fed protein unflavored, without added sugar, without rBGH, not gmo and other things, it does for these reasons:
1. are lactose intolerant
2. Sucralose, aspartament or any derivative of sugar causes the insulin to rise.
3. If we compare some of the available whey protein, such as Optimum Nutrition, Muscle Tech among other brands vs natural and grassfed we see that people do not experience bloating, or stop losing weight, insulin rises, etc.
I think that brands like muscle tech, optimum nutrition, dymatize, among others sell proteins with bad filtration processes, besides being a product that come from industrial cows, which are full of hormones and give them another type of food.
So before saying that it is not worth buying grass fed protein think well about the benefits and think that not everyone likes the current proteins of the market.
Ps: The problem is that these brands sell a lot of publicity and lie in many things when it comes to selling your product.

You Digest Grass-fed protein better and it gets absorbed faster into your bloodstream. And in my case when I drink non-grass-fed protein I get acne and when I drink grass-fed I never do.

2:11 definitely not wasting my money on JYM's protein powders here's why: Protein Blend (Micellar Casein, Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate, Egg White Protein), Clean Cream Creamer (High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Acacia Gum, Brown Rice Syrup, Natural Flavors, Silicon Dioxide, Sunflower Lecithin, d-Alpha Tocopherols), Natural Flavors, Gum Blend (Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Carrageenan), Salt, Sunflower Lecithin, Vanilla Bean Particulates, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium, Silicon Dioxide

What about all the antibiotics in the big farms vs grass fed? The close proximity of the cattle tend to bread bacteria thus the need for drugs to combat this. The issue I see is how much antibiotics are in the big name whey proteins vs grass fed proteins?
If there are non or the same amount, then the $ factor is a non issue.

I think the ethical reasoning behind it is a solid benefit in its own right. Sure the product may not be any better but there's a lot more than goes into it.

Well what about the fact that in N.Z, we mostly have grass fed dairy cattle, which are mostly treated more humanely than those on a feed lot, and we are not allowed to let any antibiotic milk through to the milk supply, there are huge fines for that. Doesn't that count for something.

What's up with corn syrup and artificial sweeteners in pro Jym ???

Guys I advise you to research this area as you will find that grass fed protein will give you much higher benefits than ordinary protein. These cows are happier cows so less stressed ( something that can transfer to we all need less stress nowadays). Less antibiotics and definitely no artificial ingredients . As much as I love Jym protein I can say that grass fed whey is far superior and worth the extra cost

does this only apply to whey isolates? doesnt a whey concentrate still contain these fats and they are not filtered out, so therefore grassfed whey concentrate would be more beneficial than non-grass fed concentrate?

nastbass

The argument that whey protein isolate had the good content filtered out is not entirely true. 1. Jim is ignoring the fact that grassfed protein has a different amino acid composition than grain fed protein 2. The point of organic is not added nutrient content but the complete lack of pesticide residue in the feed. 3. There is also an issue with inflammatory A1 casein and lactose. How many grassfed organic goat protein powders are available on the market?

mosesking

Sure buddy, but that only applies to isolates. Smart folks use concentrates for better MPS unless they're lactose intolerant and then maybe they'll have to use an isolate. Most people aren't though.

Levels grass fed is good? Seems like very less ingredients and clean

After looking through many comments here, I'm surprised you haven't added a grass fed product to your supplement line up! Potential customers are telling you what they want and you won't sell them what they want? Not good business logic my friend!
