For anyone coming back to this. I edited my script to just home x and y after the pause so i can move my bed to clip down the fabric and then resume. The y and x axis will home and the printer won't rehome z. Just don't twist the z rod and you're good. At least in my experience.

Hi, when I try printing on top of fabric the nozzle always get caught even if I use clips and making sure it's flat... How do you make sure that doesn't happen? I have an Ender 3 btw

I wonder what would happen if you ironed the material to the layers that are already down when paused.
