Welcome to my Broke Artist's Guide series, where I occasionally share my favorite materials, hacks, and tricks for creating amazing art on a budget!

Creating art on a budget doesn’t mean sacrificing quality or creativity! In this video, I’m sharing how I love using Crayola Markers—an affordable, vibrant, and versatile tool for adding color to your drawings and mixed media projects.

These markers are perfect for budget-conscious artists! At just $3.50 a pack, they’re a guilt-free way to explore your creativity without breaking the bank.

Remember, you don’t need a big budget to make art!

Really heartwarming to see a creator using budget friendly, easily accessible supplies. Creativity does not have a price tag. Oftentimes the simplest of equipment yields the greatest results.

I love this spread. Love my Crayola Markers. Start of every school year I get two/three new packs. I’m 68 and wouldn’t buy any others. New Crayola crayons were the one indulgence my mom would spend “her hard earned money” on. One Christmas my grandma bought me a 64 count pack. Those were coveted and not shared with coloring buddies. Sorry, I digress. May have to break out my markers now. Thanks for sharing.

Super! It’s so nice to see a video presenter who talks to us “poor” artists who don’t always have lots of money to spend on the highest quality materials. I work on a table in the corner of my living room. It’s discouraging to watch videos with artists who have enormous Studios with endless expensive supplies. Well, I do sometimes choose hire materials for final art, it’s a really great to have other materials that are affordable.

I love this! I'm a beginner and sometimes when I get expensive supplies I don't want to "waste" them on my very beginner art. This feels very doable and eliminates that fear. Thanks for sharing!

Not sure if anyone has said this yet, but if all you have to work with is permanent/alcohol markers, you can dilute them with isopropyl alcohol, which many of us have on hand anyway. Just scribble with your marker(s) on a nonporous surface like a plastic pallet or ceramic plate then dilute with a small amount of alcohol and paint on with a brush. Once dry, you can doodle over top with the same markers or use another supply you have that's calling to your creativity. 🤘🏻

You are the Queen of Contrast! I wouldn't have thought to edge that spread with the black and fade it. Lovely. I enjoy watching you create.

I just am amazed at your patience…to just keep on going. I can’t doodle because I get bored. How I wish I had some of your patience.

I get more compliments on art I doodle with $1.25 highlighters from Dollar Tree than I do on my "real" artwork created with my very expensive supplies. People love light, colorful, fun art and my highlighter doodles fit that 100%. My real art is great but requires focused attention. This world with all its pulls for our attention is draining. Sometimes people - me included - just want to smile at pretty, no thought required.
