I wish this brand would come back to the USA.
Fantastic economy without the unwanted bells and whistles

This unit would make a great off-road camper.
Great color on this one!

I owned the 6 seater mini bus version of this van. The windows were one way glass & the bench seats clipped out, to fit on the roof rack. Dual sliding doors, turned it into a mini camper. Insanely useful bit of kit & very practical. ❤

My wife had a street legal Daihatsu Rocky. She drove that little mini jeep for 15 years. It had power brakes and A/C but thats all. Manual steering, door locks, window cranks, locking hubs etc. All basic.
It was a fun car. Removable rear roof. Full removable sun roof. Great in the snow.
Thankfully we are both under 5'6" because the car was SMALL. Cruising in 5th gear you had to shift to neutral to change the cassette tape. GREAT LITTLE CAR !

I worked at a golf resort with 2 courses for just under 30 years. When I started there in 1990 they had 3 Daihatsu Hijets. They were 1986 models and were 2 wheel drive with 4-speed (governed at 25 mph). The governor was ignition cut-off. The engine was as smooth as can be, and the transmission and clutch always operated beautifully. One of them had no doors or roof and that one was a tan or beige color. The other two were white. All three of them had the same sides and tailgate as the one in the video. The two with doors were only used by one guy each, but the one with no doors could be used by anyone, first come, first serve. I always preferred it over the Cushmans, because it drove so nicely. I think all three were gone by the 2000s. Anyway, I watched this video just out of curiosity, because I saw a Hijet being towed on a trailer when we were on a road trip recently.

This would make a fine light-duty farm truck. It would also be fine to take camping equipment to a woodlot.

This thing is sweet. Perfect for the farm.

Excellent ! Back to the retro 1980's wine-red truck color ( a Toyota exclusive ).

This is wonderful. Unfortunately the American public doesn’t know what’s good for them. This (as well as long bed, reg. cab pick ups) are what contractors need to actually do productive work. But the American public has all but ignored actual work trucks as of late. I’m tired of seeing people buy double cab pickups and then complain that they can’t fit standard 2x4 or plywood sheets in the back. Bring back regular cab pickups with 8 foot beds and this type vehicle.

I would buy one in a heartbeat. I don't need all the bells and whistles just something simple.

Daihatsu is a good brand as long as they make them in Japan.

Back in the mid 80s we used to have these HiJets as utility vehicles for managing our golf courses. Ours were stripped-down versions that did not have a/c or doors for that matter. They were governed to only 15 mph. They haven't changed looks much however

Taylor, that is a gorgeous truck, in my opinion.

Everything about this is so cool.2wd/4wd/ differential lock. Can be converted to flat bed. Cousy roomy carb with powered door locks/ windows. As well as manual transmission looks fun to drive and hvac controls! Ac and heat. Honestly I would rather have it over most Polaris sxs. This is probably half the money.

I rented a Dahatsu Rocky suv diesel in Costa Rica for two weeks to drive around the country what a rugged vehicle

Is it street legal? how much? Why can't salesmen answer the most basic questions.
