Finding Where You Fit - Part 1
David was secure as Jesse’s son, and in the knowledge that he was the youngest of his siblings: he knew his place and his function. He also knew how his function added value to the family. From this simple beginning David progressed to ultimately become the king of the nation of Israel.
The opposite of value-adding function is dysfunction. Many people grow up in dysfunctional families and then become dysfunctional adults with dysfunctional marriages. These people can also be dysfunctional in the workplace and in the church.
Value-adding function flows naturally from people who have found their place. When we find our God-given calling, develop Christ-like character, understand and acknowledge our giftedness, develop conviction and passion, and accurately assess our capacity, we can function in a way that adds value to others: our family and friends, the Body of Christ, and in the workplace.
